My wife and I were recommended to go to the La Piazza Restaurant in Wildwood NJ by our hotel Management. This was this past weekend August 15th.
Problem 1. I made a reservation 1 day in advance for around 6:30 pm. When my wife and I arrived there, we had to wait almost 3/4 of an hour to be seated. There were other people walking in without reservations and being seated almost immediatly. Some of the people walking in you could tell have either been there before, or they were locals being catered by the receptionest. I guess I wasen't the typical South Philadelphia clone. We got over that hurdle.
Problem 2. After we were seated, it took approximatly 15 to 20 minutes just to have our waitress come over with a huge attitude because she had to many tables.
Problem 3. My wife and I ordererd two cocktails, it took another 15 minutes for the waitress to bring them to the table.
Problem 4. When the waitress approched the table to take our order, she began to quickley rattle off a few chefs specials without telling us the price.
Problem 5. One of the things that we ordered was two small plates of house salads. They were brought to the table 20 minutes after we ordered them and both plate were so soaked with vineger that you could not eat them. After ten more minutes of trying to flag down our waitress so that she could return them for replacements, we now have eaten all of the "two pieces" of bread in the basket that was put on the table. So far, my wife and I have been in this God forsaken place for 1.5 hrs and still no dinner...
Problem 6. The salads were returned to the table in another 10 minutes and they were just as bad as the first one. I complained to the waitress and she said that the people in the kitchen were new. She could not emphasize enough that it was a family ran business.
Problem 7. At this point our appetites were not the best. Our entries came out to the table that were very small portions. I ordered a "Veal Chop" (very small and fatty) and my wife ordered a scallop dinner that drownded in butter. Now, over 2.5 hours had pasted with this horrible dinner and service. No the best. The waitress brought over over check $98.23 I was charged $40.00 for a small fatty veal chop. This was not Surf and Turf, it was a fatty veal chop. Re-cap... Two glasses of wine, two ruined house salads, two horrible entries. That's a disgrace.
Problem 8. I finally got the waitresses attention and called her over to the table to check on the bill for a mistake. She seemed to be very insulted that I would even mention the fact the the bill was wrong. At this point our night was ruined by this Rip Off of a restaruant. Please don't eat at this smoked filled room, or waste or hard earned money on this South Philadelphia hangout, especially if you have a family to raise. My appologies if I misspelled any words.
