I received a letter on January 14, 2026, stating that they were lowering my credit limit from $1,200 to $500. This is what they stated as the reason: too many inquiries, monthly obligations are too high, and, get this, they pulled my credit report on 12/24/2025 and said my score was 512. I was furious!
First of all, I did not need this card. I was trying to do a balance transfer to this card because the interest rate would be better. So, I checked my credit score to find out what was going on. It turns out they never checked my credit score on 12/24/2025, and my score has never been 512; it is in the 780s. There were only 7 inquiries, and they were all over 5 months old. I had only had this card for 5 months, and I only charged it 4 times, paying it off long before they claimed they pulled my credit report.
I went to the bank where I got this card, and my agent could not tell me why they did it either. I called ELAN, and they told me to file a complaint. So, I printed out my old credit report up to the last date that it was refreshed, and I paid for it to be refreshed to see if anything was different. Well, there was nothing different other than some of my other credit cards being paid off. So, I printed that one out too. I wrote them a letter and mailed them both copies of the credit report and a copy of the letter that was sent. They came back stating that they do a periodic credit check and referenced the first letter, insisting it was correct. Clearly, how can they be right when I had proof that it wasn't? I WILL NOT DO SERVICE WITH THEM AGAIN! I have credit cards with limits of up to $50,000, so do you think I really need this credit card? Exactly!
