Kenmore Oasis Dryer F-40 Display Problem - Dryer Does Not Work

We purchased the Kenmore Oasis set in July.in August our dryer displayed the "F-40" code. We contacted Sears Repair Service and was told it meant there was a problem with the computer in the display and was instructed to unplug the dryer from the outlet then replug and the dryer may work again. It worked for a while, until several weeks ago when the dryer continued to stop working and the F-40 code reappeared. Now the dryer does not work at all. Unfortunately, we did not purchase an extended warranty feeling that Sears reputation spoke for itself. We were told a repairman had to be scheduled to service the dryer (more than a week later) for a charge of $129.00 (not including any parts). How can any reputable company claim to stand behind their product if customers who purchase large ticket items that break down within 12-14 months are left holding the bag? Is this good customer service recovery practice? Our old washer and dryer lasted for 12 years and was a Kitchen Aid product and only required we replace a belt on the washer due to wear and tear for $40. Regardless whether or not we opted to purchase an extended warranty is irrelevant us. We did not think the machine would only last a little more than one year! Future customers beware and go on-line to view other complaints about this machine.
