Terrible Customer Service

I went to Ashley Furniture today to purchase 2 end tables. I found the perfect ones, on clearance, right in my price range. I asked the lady in the front of the store to page the salesman that had approached me earlier. While we were writing up the paperwork apparently another associate sold them right under our noses. The lady at the front had even told her they were already sold. She said, "well the tag is still on it so now they're mine". After the paperwork was complete my salesman went back to get the tag. Now, don't get me wrong, if it is their store policy that whomever holds the tags gets the item, that's there business. But as a customer, I shouldn't lose because the salesman didn't do his job correctly and take the tag first. I'm thinking it's a done deal and I'm heading home with my new purchase. Long story short, since these items were on clearance, my salesman didn't step up and back me up. I even waited forever to speak with management who basically told too bad. No offer to assist or provide a replacement or anything within reason. That is not the way to treat a customer. I understand things happen, but a big corporation like Ashley should have done the right thing and made sure I wasn't walking away with a bad taste in my mouth... And empty handed. Trust me I will never go back or support a business that doesn't acknowledge their error, treat a customer properly, or even make an attempt to resolve customer issues.
