FedEx complaints: how to file a claim, who to call and what FedEx publishes

This page was checked on 2026-10-20 against FedEx's own support pages, BBB, Trustpilot and the company's most recent Form 10-K. Keep the tracking number, receipts, photos of the packaging and of any door tag, and the dates and names of every contact.

  • Customer service. FedEx's Contact Us page lists U.S. Customer Service at 1.800.GoFedEx (1-800-463-3339), U.S. Billing Inquiries at 1-800-622-1147, and a mailing address for FedEx Customer Relations: 3875 Airways, Module H3, Department 4634, Memphis, TN 38116 (read 2026-10-20).
  • Lost or damaged package: file a claim. FedEx's claims page says a claim is filed online and 'You must be logged in to file a claim.' For recipients it says: 'Contact the merchant to request a replacement, ask them to file a claim for you, or file a claim on your own.' Its stated time limits: 'File your claim for damaged or missing contents no later than 60 calendar days from the shipment date for U.S. packages and 21 calendar days from the shipment date for international packages. Claims for undelivered or lost shipments must be filed within nine months of the shipment date.' The page asks for supporting documents such as purchase invoices, repair estimates, expense statements or appraisals, and says: ‘Keep the original packaging and contents until your claim is resolved.’ On a denied claim it says: ‘You can dispute your claim by adding supporting documents to your existing claim.’
  • Marked delivered but not received. The claims page lists 'undelivered or lost shipments' as a claim type; the time limit above applies. Ask the sender or merchant at the same time, because the page says shippers and merchants can file claims and send a replacement.
  • Suspicious messages and payment requests. FedEx's fraud page says: 'Scams seeking payment in order to recieve shipments are rampant.' It says FedEx may contact an international recipient 'via email or SMS with a secure link to pay applicable duties and taxes', that these messages and amounts can be checked in the FedEx Import Tool, and that suspicious messages can be forwarded to [email protected]. It also says: ‘If you believe someone is fraudulently using your account, contact us at 1.800.584.2681’ and ‘If you have already interacted with a message and lost money, contact your bank immediately’, and suggests also considering the Internet Crime Complaint Center or your state Attorney General’s office.
  • BBB. BBB's FedEx Corporation profile says that to ask for BBB's help with a dispute you should include 'the tracking number or FedEx account number involved when submitting your complaint to avoid delays.'
  • LTL freight. FedEx's support pages say FedEx Freight 'became an independent less-than-truckload (LTL) company on June 1st' and direct LTL customers to a separate FedEx Freight page; parcel and air freight customers continue to use FedEx's own pages.

The complaint and fraud routes of government agencies (state attorneys general, FTC ReportFraud) were not opened for this page, so they are not quoted here.

Who operates FedEx and what changed with FedEx Freight

Who FedEx is. FedEx Corporation's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2026 (filed 2026-07-20) says FedEx 'was incorporated in Delaware on October 2, 1997 to serve as the parent holding company and provide strategic direction to the FedEx portfolio of companies.' Its principal executive offices are at 942 South Shady Grove Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38120. The company says: 'Since our founding in 1971...'. BBB lists FedEx Corporation at 3610 Hacks Cross Rd, Memphis, TN, with BBB Accredited status and these alternate names: FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, FedEx Custom Critical, FedEx Trade Networks, FedEx Supply Chain Services, Fed Ex, FedEx Office and FedEx Crossborder (BBB's list still includes FedEx Freight and FedEx Custom Critical; the 10-K says FedEx Custom Critical was part of the FedEx Freight business distributed in the June 1, 2026 spin-off). The 10-K also says FedEx changed its fiscal year end from May 31 to December 31 effective June 1, 2026 and will report the seven-month period from June 1 through December 31, 2026 in a Transition Report on Form 10-K.

Scale (company figures). The 10-K says that as of May 31, 2026 Federal Express employed approximately 452,000 employees and had approximately 84,000 drop-off locations (including FedEx Office stores and FedEx OnSite locations), 700 aircraft and over 180,000 motorized vehicles. It also says FedEx Office 'offers retail access to Federal Express shipping services at all of its retail locations.'

FedEx Freight is now a separate company. According to the 10-K, FedEx's board declared a pro rata dividend of 80.1% of the shares of FedEx Freight Holding Company, Inc. to stockholders of record on May 15, 2026; on June 1, 2026 FedEx stockholders received one FedEx Freight share for every two FedEx shares, FedEx retained 19.9%, and FedEx Freight Holding trades on the NYSE under the symbol FDXF. FedEx's own contact and claims pages direct less-than-truckload (LTL) customers to a separate FedEx Freight page.

This site's archive. 535 older complaints in this archive name FedEx, Federal Express, FedEx Ground or FedEx Express as the business (17 of them FedEx Kinko's print-shop locations), dated 2000 to 2014; none is from the last decade. Court cases in FedEx's annual report

Cases the company filed. The 10-K says that on February 20, 2026 the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision invalidating tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), and that on February 23, 2026 FedEx filed a lawsuit in the U.S. Court of International Trade against U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the CBP commissioner and the United States seeking a full refund of the IEEPA tariffs FedEx paid. It says FedEx began filing refund claims through CBP's CAPE system on April 20, 2026 and had received cash refunds of approximately $800 million as of May 31, 2026. This is a suit brought by FedEx; we did not open the court docket. On refunds to customers, the 10-K says: ‘To the extent customers have previously paid amounts associated with these tariffs, FedEx plans to remit corresponding refunds as soon as practicable’, and that FedEx recorded $749 million as of May 31, 2026 within current liabilities representing estimated customer refund obligations for cash refunds received. FedEx’s own FAQ says it is ‘committed to returning any applicable refunds we have received from the U.S. Treasury to its customers’ and points customers to the FedEx IEEPA Tariff Refund Portal (ieepa-refunds.fedex.com); these are company statements and we have not checked any customer’s refund.

Cases against the company (company description). Note 19 of the 10-K says FedEx and its subsidiaries 'are subject to various legal proceedings and claims, including lawsuits alleging that Federal Express should be treated as the employer or joint employer of drivers employed by service providers', class actions alleging wage-and-hour violations, and lawsuits alleging responsibility for third-party losses related to vehicle accidents. It states that in management's opinion the aggregate liability, if any, will not have a material adverse effect on FedEx's financial position, results of operations or cash flows. Item 3 of the 10-K refers to Note 19 for pending proceedings.

Putative class actions over IEEPA tariffs (company description). The 10-K also says: ‘fourteen nationwide class action lawsuits seeking refunds of IEEPA tariffs from FedEx were filed in U.S. district courts in various states. Thirteen of those lawsuits were consolidated into a single case pending in Tennessee federal court. The remaining lawsuit is pending in the Court of International Trade.’ These are plaintiffs’ claims, not findings; we did not open any docket, so case numbers and current status are unverified.

Other consumer class actions, state attorney general actions and dockets were not searched to completion for this page; none is listed here, and that is not a statement that none exists.

Trustpilot shows 1.2 from 54,963 reviews with the notices quoted above.

These sources describe a large, long-established public carrier with a high volume of customer complaints and reviews on third-party sites; they do not measure how any individual shipment was handled. Use the company's own claim and customer-service channels first, and the BBB or a state regulator if the problem is not resolved.
