Conn's HomePlus accounts, payments, insurance and past purchases: who handles what (checked October 11, 2026)

Conn's, Inc. and ten affiliates filed Chapter 11 petitions on July 23, 2024 (U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Texas, Case No. 24-33357). The conns.com site now works as a bill-pay and insurance-claim page, and its privacy notice says it is issued by "Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC d/b/a Conn's Servicing (Conn's)/Badcock Servicing (Badcock)." Which route applies depends on what your problem is.

  • You still owe a balance on a Conn's installment or credit-card account. The conns.com FAQ says: "You may use our online portal above to pay your Conn's Installment account, or you can pay by phone by calling customer service at 1-800-511-5750." The portal lookup page (billpay.conns.com, headed "Conn's Servicing") shows a different representative number, 877-358-1252, and a customer contact form. Keep proof of every payment, because the accounts changed hands during the bankruptcy.
  • Payment fee. The FAQ says Conn's "does not charge any fees for making payments on an account, but a third-party processor charges a non-refundable processing fee of $2.25 per transaction" for a remote one-time card payment, and lists automatic payments or paying by cash, check or ACH as ways to avoid it.
  • Credit insurance (property, involuntary unemployment, life, disability). The conns.com page offers claim forms by the state where the loan was originated: Assurant forms for Alabama, Arizona, Louisiana, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia and for Georgia loans originated before 2024, and Fortegra forms for Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Florida and South Carolina. For Georgia loans originated in 2024 it says to contact [email protected]. To cancel, it says to complete the cancellation form and email it with proof of homeowners or renters insurance where applicable; if cancellation is requested more than 30 days after purchase, the credit is prorated.
  • Protection plans (Repair Service Agreement, Food Loss Claim, FurnitureGard). The conns.com page says: "please contact Assurant directly at (800) 316-2993." The BBB profile's alert, which opens with "PER THE COMPANY," says Conn's "is no longer offering service on products purchased," that customers within the manufacturer's warranty period may contact the manufacturer directly, and that Repair Service Agreements "are still valid and being administered through Assurant," with Assurant at 877-881-8578. The two Assurant numbers come from different pages and are shown as each page gives them.
  • A past purchase, a prepaid order or a claim in the bankruptcy. The page says to refer to the claims agent's case page, dm.epiq11.com/case/conns/info, where you can "submit a claim, or submit an inquiry." That page lists October 7, 2024 as the general bar date for proofs of claim, January 20, 2025 for governmental units and August 30, 2025 as the Administrative Expense Bar Date; all three dates have passed. The plan was confirmed on July 21, 2025 (see the litigation section). The Epiq overview says the plan "has been confirmed" and lists GlassRatner as Plan Administrator (1675 N. Military Trail, Suite 650, Boca Raton, FL 33486) among the case's notice parties.

If you think a balance, payment or credit-report entry is wrong. BBB's alert says account complaints "are now handled through Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC." Write to the servicer at the San Antonio address in its privacy notice and keep copies. You can also submit a complaint to the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. The CFPB's page on debt collectors says a validation notice must tell you that you can dispute the debt and that "if you dispute the debt in writing within 30 days" the collector will provide verification. Whether collector rules apply to a particular Conn's account depends on how that account is classified, which this page cannot determine.

Regulator record: Texas Attorney General settlement (2009) and what was not found (checked October 11, 2026)

Texas Attorney General, 2009. Conn's 10-Q for the quarter ended October 31, 2009 states: "On May 28, 2009, the Texas Attorney General filed suit against the Company in the Texas state District Court of Harris County, Texas, alleging that they engaged in unlawful and deceptive practices in violation of the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices-Consumer Protection Act. On November 24. 2009, the Company settled the litigation and denied those allegations in its answer to the suit, and under the terms of the settlement with the Texas Attorney General, it continues to deny any wrongdoing." The filing lists two cash payments to the Attorney General for distribution to consumers as restitution ($2.5 million within 30 days and $2.0 million within 90 days), $250,000 in attorney's fees, reimbursement of litigation expenses, and a $100,000 donation to the University of Houston Law Center.

The company's 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2010 adds that under the settlement it "consented to certain changes made to the service agreements and replacement product plan agreements that we sell for a third party insurer and to strengthen the manner in which we market and service these programs." This profile read those two company filings; the Attorney General's own settlement document was not located.

Other checks. A title search of the CFPB's enforcement-actions page for "conn" on October 11, 2026 returned no action naming Conn's. The bankruptcy docket shows a notice of appearance by the Tennessee Attorney General's Consumer Division filed August 23, 2024; the docket entry does not state any claims. Searches of the FTC site and of other state attorneys general were not completed for this page.

About Conn's: entity, structure and the sale of its credit accounts

Entity. The registrant is Conn's, Inc., a Delaware company with principal executive offices at 2445 Technology Forest Blvd., Suite 800, The Woodlands, Texas. Its July 25, 2024 Form 8-K lists the Chapter 11 debtors as Conn's, Inc. and Conn Appliances, Inc., Conn Credit Corporation, Inc., CAI Credit Insurance Agency, Inc., CAI Holding LLC, Conn Credit I, LP, New RTO, LLC, W.S. Badcock Credit I LLC, W.S. Badcock Credit LLC, W.S. Badcock LLC and Conn Lending, LLC. BBB's profile says the business sells furniture, mattresses, appliances, TVs, computers and electronics, and lists the business start as 1890; the 10-K likewise says "Conn's began as a small plumbing and heating business in 1890."

Business model. The company's last annual report before the filing (fiscal year ended January 31, 2024) describes it as "a leading specialty retailer" of durable consumer goods "in addition to proprietary credit solutions for its core consumers," and describes securitizing customer accounts receivable through special-purpose entities for which it retained servicing.

Sale of the credit accounts. Jefferson Capital, Inc.'s annual report for 2025 states: "Effective December 3, 2024, the Company's U.S. subsidiary Jefferson Capital Systems, LLC entered into a definitive agreement to purchase certain assets from Conn's, Inc. ... though a bankruptcy process for $244.9 million in cash (the 'Conn's Portfolio Purchase')." It adds that it hired 197 former Conn's employees on December 4, 2024 "to manage and service the assets acquired in the Conn's Portfolio Purchase through their remaining life," and also states that "At the time of the Conn's portfolio purchase, which consisted primarily of performing receivables," it recorded an allowance for credit losses, and that a purchased portfolio may include "a significant amount of charged-off or nonperforming loans, as was the case with the Conn's Portfolio." The docket shows a sale order signed November 6, 2024. A docket notice of February 28, 2025 cancelled an auction for "additional consumer finance receivables and ABS residuals"; this page does not state what became of securitized accounts.

After the sale. The Epiq case page names GlassRatner as Plan Administrator. Furniture Today reported on July 22, 2025 that the Conn's HomePlus and Badcock brands "went out of business" after the filing and that the confirmed plan provides for distribution of assets, wind-down of operations and dissolution of the debtors.

Conn's complaint record: this site's archive, BBB, CFPB and Trustpilot (as displayed October 11, 2026)

This site's archive. A search of this site's approved posts on October 11, 2026 found 308 older complaints linked to this page, written between 2000 and 2014 (72 in 2009, 62 in 2008, 52 in 2010, 39 in 2011). They are consumers' unverified accounts of purchases at Conn's stores, mostly appliances, televisions, computers, mattresses and lawn equipment. Twenty-two other posts that appeared to be machine-rewritten copies or near-duplicates were left out, and one post filed under Conn's that concerns a roofing contractor was not linked. Keyword counts across the 308 linked posts (one post can count in several groups): 95 mention a warranty, service plan or extended-warranty contract; 123 mention repair, a service call or a technician; 84 mention delivery or installation; 108 mention a defective, damaged or non-working item; 112 mention credit, payments, collection calls or insurance charges; 100 mention a return, refund or restocking fee. These posts describe the retailer as it operated more than a decade ago and say nothing about the current servicing arrangement.

The Bankruptcy alert cites case number 9:24-bk-90423, which differs from the lead case number 24-33357 used on the Epiq and CourtListener pages.

CFPB database.
