April 4 i entered a branch of fifth third bank. I wanted to cash my check before my coworkers and i went out to lunch and this branch was close by. My bank is about a 10 min drive. My payroll check is cut from an account my company has with fifth third.
I get the usuall "hi how are you, i can help you here." i advised them i would like to cash a check. I sign and apply my thumb print and show my i.D. I am told "you know it is $8.00 to cash this check?" "no", i reply. "as of april 1 we now charge $8.00 to cash a check if you dont have an account with us." i ask "why?" this check is drawn on an account with this bank. I am told that if i dont have an account i must pay the $8.00 fee. I pick up my check and turn to leave.
I am then offered the chance to waive the $8.00 fee if i open a new account with them that way i will never have to worry about paying that fee. I decline. Thank god i have a real bank account somewhere else.
The following day i call the main fifth third branch in my city. I inquire about the fee and ask why they have implemented the new fee. I am told by the csr " i dont know why."
Fifth third has such a bad rep. Or are losing so much money they want to make people use their bank.
Fyi walmart will cash a check 24hrs a day 7 days a week for $3.00 and small chain grocery stores charge less than $8.00
fifth third should be ashamed.
Great way to show your love of your community.
My employer will be closing his accounts asap.
