Banks have NEVER charged customers to cash a check... When the check is from the bank itself.in other words, banks could charge a small service charge to cash checks drawn on OTHER banks, but banks never charged customers a service charge to cash a check that's drawn on their own account. Fifth Third Bank is the first bank I've ever had the BAD EXPERIENCE to encounter such a ridiculous blatant ripoff!
I received a check from a friend, and the check was written from a Fifth Third checking account. So I went into the branch office, where I was told that if I was not a customer, I would be charged an $8 fee to cash the check. I asked to speak to the manager, but was told she was busy.
Its insane! There is no way a bank should be allowed to charge a fee to cash a check that is drawn on their OWN BANK!
Anybody who is reading this should seriously consider changing their bank if they are a Fifth Third customer. Numerous people have told me they are ONE OF THE WORST BANKS in the US. High service charges, poor service, hidden fees are all part of their scam. CHANGE to a local CREDIT UNION... Help stop this blatant consumer abuse!
