We signed a lease to rent an apartment and wrote a check for $2,800 for the security deposit and first month's rent. The buyer for our home backed out, and we were unable to rent the apartment. One of the owners offered to help us; he called our real estate agent to confirm, and was told that it was true.
I explained to Integrity that if they could release us from the lease, we would give them $1,400 for their trouble. We had put only 7 items in the apartment - flowers, Clorox bottles, that was it - and never spent a night there. All the blinds were bent, the oven was dirty, there were holes in the carpet from a cat, and numerous holes throughout the unit before we ever moved in.
I am 74 years old with cancer, and my wife is 66 with cancer. He still kept our $2,800, without even offering a partial refund, though he told me he would try to help us because of the name Integrity. Maybe he should look up the meaning of the word 'integrity' in a dictionary. I hope he never treats anyone else like this. The owner knew I had acted in good faith and confirmed that it was not my fault. My religion teaches me to forgive him for what he did to me and my family, and I will try to do that.
