I lost my job and asked for a deferment. I was granted the deferment. Up to this point, I paid every month, on time and through the net (no wait for checks, instant payments from me).
Following the deferment, I was still unemployed. I asked for another deferment and, predictably, was denied. They give one deferment every 6 months. I gave my apologies and could only offer that I was searching for a job.
After 3 months, I have a job and a guaranteed source of income. I let Capital One know when I can pay and how much. Despite this, they said, "well, the calls are going to keep coming until its paid." I said, well what do you think will change between now and the next time you call?
"I'm sorry sir but the calls will keep coming until you pay. We have the right to do that."
They dont stop calling. Everyday, I have the caller id showing capital ones non-stop calls even after 7 PM EST. When I pick up, they get some person who reiterates the same question: "When are you going to make a payment?", and I say, "the same time i told you yesterday."
"I'm sorry sir. But, the calls will keep coming."
Folks, Capital One admits they purposely harass their account holders like this. They claim they are within the law. I told them they are abusing the law because the law never took into account their restless, robotic phone system.
Now, I am not a rip off or a deadbeat, or someone who never pays or is late all the time. I truly had a crisis in my life. Now, I am back on my feet and know when I can pay Capital One. I even have a nice tax check coming.
So, everyday they call, I have to either pick up the non-stop ringing phone or ignore it.
Why do they do this? Are they brain dead? No, they PURPOSELY DO THIS to PUNISH us even when we have a plan to pay. They are MONSTERS who are ABUSING people under the "FAIR" debt collection act which did not take into consideration that someone as big as Capital One would automate their phone systems to cause this much trouble with account holders.
The laws need to change. Capital One is proof that even with a balanced law, they will take it to the nth degree, determined to annoy people. Its unfair, and I would be willing to speak to a lawyer if it means some laws should be changed to reflect the honesty coming from myself and others who are going to pay but have come upon hard times.
I am not a slacker or a deadbeat, I really am paying my bill on a certain date, Capital One is still harrassing me. Its not fair!
