Following Hurricane Rita I called Cap. One and asked for a deferment, because I lost my job and home. I was told I would get a letter in the mail. This was in October.
After dozens of phone calls and my paying the October and November payment, still no deferment letter. One Jan. 20 I finally got a deferment letter stating I had to send $25.00 for the deferment. The letter stated the January payment would become due in 2008. I sent the $25.00 called to see if the deferment fee had been received to be told the deferment would not go through because I owed for December. The deferment letter I received did not say anything of the sort.
Then the phone calls started.
On Sunday January 22, I received over 20 calls from collections. Each call a different name. I explained that I had a deferment etc.
I still get at least 10 calls per day (which I do not answer my phone anymore) Each collector tells me a different story and not another name of someone supposed to be on my auto loan named Don Baker is also asked for when these calls come in. I do not know anyone named Don Baker, I am the sole deptor on this auto loan. I am 68 years old had to relocate to another town after the hurricane. I did send Cap. One my new phone number now I wish I hadn't.
I have called to speak to a supervisor on may occassions and all I get is someone new. I have documanted every call and names of the collectors when I did answer the phone. I am being harassed and I do not like it. Anyone have any suggestions? I am upside down in the automobile a 2001 Hyundai which I still owe $7124.40 and cannot trade it in for another car because I owe to much money. I have made 49 payments none ever being late til Hurricane Rita blew my job away. Help.
