I have had a loan through Triad for over a year, and have never been late on a payment. I recently went into a dealership to trade in my car. Since I was in good standing with Triad they ran it through them, but I was denied. Here's the kicker! I was denied because they didn't have a phone number for me. Which is interesting since they've never had a problem calling me at home. I later called them, and gave them my number once more.
Since then, I lost my job on Christmas. I called Triad to ask for a deferment, but was told that I could not get one because the timeframe had passed. She said I could get one for next month which would be January, but I'd have to call back in January for that one.
I did call back and put in for a deferment. I recieved a message to call Triad, and did so a couple of days later. The operator on the other end said my deferment was denied because they needed some more information. They asked for my number again! I gave it to them one more time, and was astounded by her response. "We need another number to contact you, " she said. I told her I did not have any other number. She asked for my cell, and I told her this was my cell - I don't have a land line. She then asked for a work number. To which I replied that I had none which is why I need the deferment, duh. She then wanted a "friend or relative's" number. I finally gave her a bogus number.
She then asked where I was employed! Where the hell has she been! I just told her I was unemployed! Then she asked how much I made. How many times do I have to tell her I don't make anything, hence the deferment!? After that she asked what benefits I am recieving. I told her again that I was unemployed and had no benefits. She seemed surprised and asked again about the benefits. I asked if she meant unemployment, and she said yes. I told her that I don't collect unemployment. She then asked if I had any money coming in at all. NO! That's why I need a deferment! She then tells me that they will not give me a deferment because I have no income! What?! That doesn't make any damn sense. If you are making money they'll give you a deferment, but they won't give an economic hardship deferment? I've never heard of such a practice. I asked her how they expected me to make a payment on time with no income, and no deferment. She had no response, and said that I had til the end of the month, but this is pending approval as well. If this is how they treat people who were never late on a payment, and paid extra every month, how do they treat everyone else?
