I purchased a Kenmore refrigerator in March when I bought my home. On Friday, August 10, I found water all over the floor in my kitchen centering around the refrigerator. Upon opening the freezer, I found the ice in the icemaker was melting, and all of my frozen meat and vegetables had thawed and I had to throw all of it away. I couldn't believe the refrigerator quit working, as my parents had owned Kenmore refrigerators in the past and had gotten in excess of 10 years out of them without a single repair. I contacted Sears' toll free number to see about getting it repaired. I was told they couldn't get anyone out until Thursday. I thought since a family needs a refrigerator, they'd try to get someone out sooner, but Thursday, almost a week later, was the best they could do. When I tried to reason with him, I was asked if the refrigerator was under warranty, which it was not as the 5 year warranty ran out in 2006. He said the only way they could get somone out by Monday was if it were still under warranty. To me, this was totally unacceptable and I then asked to speak with a manager. I was told there was no manager available for me to talk to and Thursday was the best they could do. This surprised me because on two separate occasions, I had an Admiral clothes dryer repaired by Sears and they came out within a day of my request both times, and the dryer had originally been purchased from another store. I looked in the yellow pages to see if another shop could repair it, but nobody I could find other than Sears will work on Kenmore. At this point, I had enough, so I went out shopping for a new refrigerator and found a new Whirlpool refrigerator at Lowe's. This refrigerator is nearly identical to my Kenmore (I suspect my Kenmore refrigerator was actually made by Whrilpool), and will be delivered on Sunday. I've also opted for the extended service plan, which will give me a warranty out to 5 years, and the fact it has Whirlpool's name on it instead of Kenmore, give me more reapir shops to pick from to get work done besides Sears. Because of this lack of service on such an important appliance, this will be the last item I buy with Kenmore's name on it.
