After 6 months of limping along on a dieing HEWLETT PACKARD LAPTOP that should have been good for several more years yet. I finally broke down and went in search of a new computer. I spent about two months looking for the right combination of hardware, software, and price that I wanted.
I found a DELL Dimension e521 Desktop Bundle at Walmarts. Turns out, Walmarts and Dell formed a new partnership, and starting June Walmarts began selling Dell in their stores. I purchased the system for $698 plus tax. It was higher than a similar system I was looking at through ACER, but I decided to go with the Dell. This was on June 15.
Imagine my surprise when I got a newspaper on June 16, and found out that Dell is now selling this computer for $549!!! Sale good from June 15 (when I purchased it at Walmarts) through June 20.
So, I emailed Dell and Walmarts, asking if I could get a refund for the price difference. No response from either company, even though Dell promises a response back within 1 business day.
So, I called Dell on June 19. Sharon said they were very sorry, but it would be up to the re-seller on this issue of a refund, and they would connect me. Golly gee line got dropped, and I got a dial tone. Big surprise.
So I called Walmart Corporate and asked about a refund. Tamika said they were very sorry, but it would be up to the store where I purchased it on this issue of a refund - call them.
So I called Walmarts in Greenville, Michigan, where I purchased the system. Deena said NO. The offer from Dell is an online offer, and would involve shipping (which is free with this deal, by the way) - so no refund possible.
Golly gee. Ive had the computer for 4 days. Walmarts lets you return computers for a full refund for 15 days.
So I will reformat the system I spent two days setting up. I will return the Dell to Walmarts for a full refund. And will I be re-purchasing the same computer direct from Dell? Nope. Im going to go get that Acer I had my eye on to begin with.
Its the principal of the matter.
