Walmart

Walmart Inc. is the Bentonville, Arkansas retailer (Nasdaq: WMT) whose Walmart U.S. segment reported 4,611 U.S. stores at January 31, 2026, plus walmart.com, the Walmart+ membership and in-store money services. This page sets out Walmart's own return, price-match, Walmart+ cancellation and complaint routes as displayed on October 6, 2026, then the documented record: an FTC money-transfer settlement, a $100 million FTC and state Spark Driver judgment, a $50 million Department of Justice opioid-dispensing settlement announced August 28, 2026, a dismissed 2024 CFPB case, California prosecutor settlements, a $45 million weighted-goods class settlement and recent CPSC recalls. The 3,139 linked archive posts are mostly dated 2002 to 2013 and are consumers' own accounts, not findings.

Walmart returns, Walmart+ cancellation, price match, claims and how to complain: what Walmart's own pages say (checked October 6, 2026)

Walmart's own pages, opened on October 6, 2026, set out the routes below. The posts on this site that name Walmart are mostly dated 2002 to 2013, so they describe older store, Auto Care Center, MoneyCard and online-order experiences rather than today's terms.

Returns. Walmart's Return Policy (updated August 17, 2026) says: “You have 90 days after purchase or upon receipt to exchange or return an item unless noted in our exceptions.” The exceptions it lists include 2 days for major appliances, 14 days for most wireless phones and Marketplace collectible or luxury items, and 30 days for consumer electronics, most Marketplace items and Walmart protection plans. Its Final Sale list includes gift cards, prepaid cell phone cards, alcohol, ammunition, firearms, prescription medications and devices, and used or mounted tires and wheels.

Without a receipt, the policy says: “To return or exchange items without a receipt, the customer must present a valid government-issued photo ID,” a Walmart gift card is issued if the return is accepted, and “Walmart limits the number and frequency of non-receipted returns a customer may complete.” Walmart says it can “attempt to look up store purchases with a debit/credit card or online orders with a phone number or email.” Two Walmart pages give different credit-card refund timing: the Free Returns page lists “Credit card 7 days,” while the detailed Return Policy lists “Up to 10 Business Days.” For Marketplace orders the policy says “These Marketplace Sellers are responsible for processing, shipping, returns, and customer service related to your Walmart Marketplace order” and mentions seller restocking fees “up to 20%.” It also lists a “90-Day Automotive Battery Guarantee” (“Money back refund or exchange to original purchaser if battery tests bad within 90 days”).

Price match. Walmart's Price Match Policy (updated June 8, 2023) says that for items bought in a U.S. store “we will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com,” if the customer tells the associate at checkout and the item is in stock on Walmart.com. It does not match “Competitor's online or in-store prices” or Walmart.com special-event prices such as clearance, Rollback or Black Friday deals, and “The Walmart Store Manager on duty has the final decision on any Price Match.” For purchases on Walmart.com the policy says there is no price matching for competitors' prices, for items whose price dropped after purchase, or for Marketplace sellers' prices.

Walmart+. The walmart.com/plus page displays “Try 30 days of Walmart+ for just $1” and an “$98 annual membership fee.” The Walmart+ Terms of Use (last updated September 28, 2026) say trial memberships “will auto-renew into a full-price annual or monthly membership unless otherwise provided,” and give two ways to cancel: “by calling Walmart Customer Care at (800) 924-9206, or through your Walmart Account: Account > Walmart+, then select the gear icon.” Walmart's help article “Manage Walmart+ Membership” lists the online steps (go to the walmart.com account, select Walmart+, Manage membership, Manage beside Walmart+ plan, then Cancel beside Cancel membership) and says a prompt can send a reminder email “three days before your renewal date.” The Terms say you keep the benefits “until the end of your relevant term” after cancelling and that “you must cancel your membership before the end of the current membership term” to avoid a new term's charge. Pausing is limited to “one month at a time, limited to three times per year.”

On refunds, two Walmart pages differ. The Return Policy lists “Walmart+ Memberships may be refunded within 90 days unless used or activated.” The Terms (section 1.7) say the fee “is non-refundable except as expressly set forth in these Terms or as required by applicable law,” and section 1.2 says that if a trial is cancelled and ended immediately, “No refunds will be issued.” Neither page says which rule governs a particular charge, so ask Customer Care which applies and keep the answer in writing.

Who to contact. Walmart's contact page gives “1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART)” and the Walmart.com Help Center with online chat. Injury and property-damage claims are handled by “Walmart Claims Services, Inc. (d.b.a. "Claims Management, Inc." in some locations),” which Walmart's privacy notice calls “the casualty claims administrator for Walmart Inc.” Walmart MoneyCard is a separate program: its site lists Customer Care at (877) 937-4098 and carries Green Dot Corporation and Green Dot Bank notices. For pharmacy, vision center or care clinic service concerns, Walmart's Policies page (Non-Discrimination – Healthcare Services) says to speak with the manager first and, if not satisfied, to use its grievance process through the office of the Vice President, US Ethics and Employment Compliance at 1-800-WM-Ethic, www.walmartethics.com/home.aspx or [email protected]; for a complaint of discrimination it gives the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights at 1-800-368-1019.

Recalls and product safety. Walmart lists food and product recalls at corporate.walmart.com/recalls. On October 6, 2026 the list included an October 2, 2026 entry for expanded lots of Great Value frozen organic berry products (the entry's title cites potential E. coli O145 contamination) and many entries marked “Sold at Walmart.com” that manufacturers or sellers recalled. Product incidents can be reported at SaferProducts.gov, which the CPSC describes as “where the public can file and read complaints about thousands of types of consumer products.”

Prize texts and money transfers. Walmart's Fraud Alerts page says: “Never send money or provide pre-paid or gift card information to someone you do not know,” and tells people who suspect fraud to “contact the Federal Trade Commission or contact the Consumer Fraud Division of your state Attorney General.” FTC releases direct reports to ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The Return Policy says money transfers “may be refunded to sending customer if the funds have not been received or deposited,” and that the sender needs the reference number (MTCN) and identification. Many 2012 posts in this archive describe prize text messages that used Walmart's name; they are not linked to this page as complaints about Walmart.

Financial products. The CFPB's complaint page is headed “Submit a complaint about a financial product or service.”

Disputes. The Walmart.com Terms of Use (last updated September 9, 2026) contain a mandatory arbitration agreement and a class action waiver, with an exception that either side may bring an individual claim in small claims court.

FTC, state and county actions and CPSC recalls involving Walmart

The items below come from the primary documents opened on October 6, 2026; the most recent is the Department of Justice's August 28, 2026 announcement of a $50 million opioid-dispensing settlement (last item of the list). Agency and prosecutor statements are allegations unless an order says otherwise; each item states the admission language where the source gives it.

  • FTC, money transfer services (N.D. Ill., No. 1:22-cv-03372). The FTC's June 2022 complaint alleged that between 2013 and 2018 Walmart, “including in its capacity as an agent of MoneyGram, Western Union, and Ria,” allowed its money transfer services to be used by scammers who took hundreds of millions of dollars from consumers, and that it failed to implement effective anti-fraud policies, train employees and warn customers. The FTC filed an amended complaint in June 2023; in July 2024 the district court dismissed the Telemarketing Sales Rule claim for the second time, and in November 2024 the Seventh Circuit granted Walmart permission to appeal certain rulings. On June 20, 2025 the FTC announced that Walmart “will pay $10 million to settle” the case. In the stipulated order Walmart “neither admits nor denies any of the allegations in the Complaint”; it provides a $10,000,000 judgment and bars Walmart from sending or paying out any money transfer “that it knows, or consciously avoids knowing, is a fraud-induced money transfer.” The FTC says such orders have the force of law when signed by the court; the judge's signature line is blank in the FTC's copy and the FTC's case page still shows “Pending,” and the docket could not be reached (CourtListener returned a rate-limit error on October 6, 2026 and no court docket page was opened), so the date the court entered the order is not confirmed here; its status rests on the FTC's pages. Walmart's June 2022 statement called the suit “misguided,” said the company had saved consumers “an estimated $6 billion in fees,” and said it “has stopped hundreds of thousands of suspicious transactions totaling hundreds of millions of dollars.”
  • U.S. Attorney's Office, M.D. Pennsylvania, money transfer subpoenas. Walmart's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026 says it responded to grand jury subpoenas about “the Company's consumer fraud prevention program and anti-money laundering compliance related to the Company's money transfer services, where Walmart is an agent,” the most recent issued in August 2020, and that it “intends to vigorously defend this matter should the DOJ decide to pursue it further.” No charge is described in that filing.
  • FTC and 11 states, Spark Driver delivery service (N.D. Cal.). On February 26, 2026 the FTC announced a $100 million judgment to settle allegations that Walmart deceived Spark delivery drivers about base pay, incentive pay and tips. The FTC's complaint also alleged that Walmart deceived consumers that “100% of tips go to the driver,” saying it “on multiple occasions, failed to provide collected tips to drivers as promised and did not refund the tip to customers either.” Walmart's SEC filings say the stipulated order was entered on March 3, 2026, “without admitting liability,” with about $63 million of the judgment suspended and 10 years of programmatic and reporting obligations. The FTC's Spark Driver FAQs (opened October 6, 2026) say the $100 million is distributed as follows: the order directs Walmart to pay $79 million directly to drivers, $10 million is paid to the FTC, which intends to distribute it to drivers, and $11 million is paid as a civil penalty to the 11 participating states. They say the relief covers drivers nationwide who did not receive promised payments, “Not every Walmart Spark Driver will get a payment,” and eligible drivers “don’t need to do anything” or contact the FTC to be paid; the FTC adds that it “never asks you to pay to get a refund.” This applies to Spark drivers, not to Walmart shoppers generally.
  • Seven California district attorneys, expired infant formula and over-the-counter drugs. On September 23, 2026 the Sonoma County District Attorney announced a $16 million settlement with Walmart in an action brought by the district attorneys of Alameda, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Joaquin, Solano, Sonoma and Yolo counties, alleging Walmart offered infant formula after the “use by” date and over-the-counter drugs after their expiration dates. The settlement filed in Alameda County Superior Court includes an injunction and an Enhanced Expired Product & Inventory Compliance Program. The release says the prosecutors acknowledged Walmart's cooperation and that “There was no evidence discovered by prosecutors as part of this investigation that any sales of outdated or expired products by Walmart resulted in physical harm to consumers.”
  • California district attorneys, scanner overcharges and package weights (San Diego Superior Court). A San Bernardino County District Attorney release posted August 8, 2025 says Walmart entered into a stipulated judgment and will pay $5,639,801.92 ($5,500,000 in civil penalties and $139,801.92 in costs) to settle a complaint alleging false advertising and unfair competition in California; the case was investigated by the consumer protection units of the San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Clara and Sonoma district attorneys. The release says “Walmart has not admitted any liability or wrongdoing” and that the judgment includes an injunction and regional compliance associates responsible for price accuracy. It says consumers may report overcharges to the San Bernardino County Department of Weights and Measures at (909) 387-2105.
  • County of Los Angeles, website tracking technology. On August 3, 2026 the County announced a pre-litigation settlement of consumer protection claims against Walmart and Sam's Club over disclosure of customers' personal and purchase information to advertising companies through tools such as Meta pixels on Walmart's website. It describes $908,817 in monetary relief, a $388,817 restitution fund for eligible customers who visited Walmart's website between January 1, 2020 and May 20, 2024, and permanent injunctive relief. The release text I read does not describe how to claim from the fund; the County's Department of Consumer and Business Affairs lists (800) 593-8222.
  • New Jersey Attorney General, unit pricing. On June 18, 2024 the Attorney General announced that Walmart agreed to pay $1.64 million, including a $1.61 million civil penalty, to resolve allegations of inaccurate unit pricing at its 64 New Jersey stores under the Consumer Fraud Act and the Unit Pricing Disclosure Act.
  • CFPB v. Walmart Inc. and Branch Messenger, Inc. (D. Minn., No. 0:24-cv-04610). The CFPB's enforcement page says that on December 23, 2024 the Bureau “filed a complaint against Walmart Inc. and Branch Messenger, Inc.,” alleging unfair, abusive and deceptive practices under the Consumer Financial Protection Act (further statutory claims were pleaded against Branch only), and that on May 13, 2025 “the Bureau filed a notice voluntarily dismissing the action against the defendant with prejudice, and the case was closed the same day.” The CFPB lists the status as “Expired/Terminated/Dismissed.” That is a dismissal by the plaintiff, not a settlement or a finding of liability.
  • Opioid-related matters (pharmacy). Walmart's Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 says it entered settlement agreements “with all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, three U.S. territories” and the vast majority of eligible political subdivisions and tribes, accrued about $3.3 billion, and paid it by January 31, 2025. The U.S. Department of Justice's December 22, 2020 civil complaint (D. Del.) alleged unlawful dispensing and distribution of controlled substances; the 10-K said claims about one dispensing theory remained with trial set for November 2027, and the later 10-Q for July 31, 2026 says Walmart, “without admitting liability, has settled this matter for an immaterial amount, which was accrued as of July 31, 2026.” On August 28, 2026 the Department of Justice announced “a $50 million settlement with Walmart Inc.” of that Delaware action; its release says “The claims resolved by the settlement are allegations only; there has been no determination of liability.” The two descriptions of the amount are given as each source states them. DOJ also says Walmart entered a memorandum of agreement with the DEA that requires it to “establish a hotline for both employees and patients to report suspected illegal dispensing of controlled substances,” proactively monitor how its pharmacies dispense controlled substances, and establish a process to evaluate prescribers suspected of illegal prescribing

CPSC recalls naming Walmart as importer. A query of the CPSC recall data service on October 6, 2026 for recalls since January 1, 2019 that name Walmart among the importers returned eight recalls. The most recent three of products sold at Walmart stores and Walmart.com were:

  • October 1, 2026: Walmart Expert Grill metal wire bristle grill brushes, about 4,477,655 units sold at Walmart and Walmart.com from January 2021 through August 2026 for $1 to $28. CPSC hazard: “Small metal wire bristles can detach from the brushes and stick to the grill or food, posing an ingestion hazard and risk of serious internal injuries that could require surgery.” CPSC says “Consumers should stop using the recalled grill brushes immediately and contact Walmart for a full refund or a credit for use at any Walmart store or Walmart.com”; “None reported” for incidents (recall 27-010).
  • November 26, 2025: Ozark Trail tabletop 1-burner butane camping stoves, about 201,000 units; CPSC says the stoves “can explode or catch fire” and that the manufacturer China Window Industry Co., Ltd had “26 reports of the camping stoves exploding or catching fire, including 16 reports of injuries such as second-degree burns”; remedy refund (recall 26-120).
  • July 10, 2025: Ozark Trail 64 oz stainless steel insulated water bottles, about 850,000 units sold since 2017; CPSC says the lid “can forcefully eject” and Walmart “has received three reports of consumers who were injured,” two with “permanent vision loss”; remedy refund (recall 25-377).

An April 2, 2026 Sam's Club recall of Member's Mark children's pajama sets (about 18,000 units, flammability standard violation, refund) also names Walmart, Inc. as importer. Walmart's recall page also lists many recalls of third-party products sold at Walmart.com; a listing there does not by itself mean the product was Walmart's own.

Who Walmart is: legal entities, stores and the money-services partners

Walmart Inc. is a Delaware corporation whose principal executive offices are at 1 Customer Drive, Bentonville, Arkansas 72716 (Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026, filed March 13, 2026). Its common stock trades under WMT; the 10-K says that effective December 9, 2025 the principal market became the Nasdaq Global Select Market, after listing on the New York Stock Exchange. SEC records show the registrant was named Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. until January 30, 2018.

The company says its founders' businesses began in 1945 with a variety store in Newport, Arkansas, that it began opening discount stores in 1962, and that it completed its initial public offering in 1970. The 10-K reports three segments (Walmart U.S., Walmart International and Sam's Club U.S.). Walmart U.S. “operates 4,611 stores in the U.S., including in all 50 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico,” under the Walmart and Walmart Neighborhood Market names plus walmart.com and the mobile app, and the company reports about 2.1 million associates worldwide, about 1.6 million of them in the U.S.

Several legal names appear in consumer terms. The Walmart.com Terms of Use define “Walmart” as “Wal-Mart.com USA, LLC and Walmart Inc., and any subsidiaries of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.” Casualty claims are run by Walmart Claims Services, Inc. (sometimes “Claims Management, Inc.”). The Walmart MoneyCard site carries Green Dot Corporation and Green Dot Bank notices, so card terms and complaints for that program sit with that program's issuer and servicer rather than with Walmart's stores. The 10-K says Walmart offers money transfers, bill payment, money orders, check cashing, prepaid access and co-branded credit cards “through various financial service partners and our OnePay fintech venture,” and the FTC's complaint described Walmart as an agent of MoneyGram, Western Union and Ria for money transfers during 2013 to 2018. Sam's Club is a separate membership business reported as its own segment.

Older posts name services that may no longer exist in the form described (for example Walmart Connect internet service, Walmart Family Mobile, in-store portrait studios and the Walmart credit card issued with GE Money Bank); this page does not describe their current status.

Complaint record: review sites as displayed on October 6, 2026 and this site's archive

Third-party sites, as displayed on October 6, 2026. These figures are shown here once; other sections refer back to them and they are not added to this site's own post counts.

  • BBB profile for Walmart, Bentonville, AR (headquarters listing): rating A+; BBB says “Walmart is BBB Accredited” (accredited since 2025-06-25 in the page's data; BBB file opened 1990-08-02; business started 1960-01-01; incorporated 1970-03-31). BBB shows 17,994 total complaints in the last 3 years and 7,560 complaints closed in the last 12 months, and customer reviews of 1.09 out of 5 (“Average of 1,400 Customer Reviews”); BBB says reviews are not used in the letter grade and that complaint numbers should be read in light of the company's size and volume of transactions.
  • Trustpilot (www.walmart.com): 1.7 from 13,021 reviews, unclaimed profile; the displayed distribution shows 5-star 9 percent and 1-star 78 percent; Trustpilot notes “This company hasn't invited their customers, so reviews may not be representative.”
  • ComplaintsBoard: 2.1 from 72 reviews and 2,804 complaints, of which 756 (27 percent) are marked resolved and 2,048 unresolved; user submissions on a third-party site.

CFPB. The company-name lookup in the CFPB consumer complaint database returned no entry for “Walmart” on October 6, 2026 (searched Walmart, Walm and Wal-Mart). The CFPB accepts complaints about financial products whether or not a company appears in that lookup. That lookup is separate from the CFPB's enforcement record, which is described in the regulator section (a 2024 CFPB case against Walmart and Branch Messenger, dismissed in 2025).

This site's archive. 3,139 approved posts are linked to this page. In 3,051 of them Walmart or Wal-Mart (including Supercenter, Neighborhood Market, Pharmacy, Money Card and walmart.com) is the named business. In the other 88 Walmart is named together with a card issuer or bank (33), a check-verification or money-transfer company (7), or an in-store service or partner such as a portrait studio, salon or tire brand (48). Of the 3,051, 2,393 are dated 2008 through 2013; the earliest are from 1999 (6 posts) and two are from 2025 and 2026. They are consumers' own accounts, not findings.

Court and class-action record

Walmart's 10-K says it is “a defendant in a number of cases containing class-action allegations in which the plaintiffs have brought claims under federal and state competition and consumer protection laws.” The matters below are the consumer-relevant ones I could confirm from primary documents.

  • Kukorinis v. Walmart Inc., No. 8:22-cv-02402 (M.D. Fla.), weighted goods and bagged citrus. The class covered purchasers of certain sold-by-weight meat, poultry, pork and seafood products and bagged organic citrus between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024, alleging they paid more than the lowest advertised in-store price. In its June 28, 2024 order the court approved a settlement under which Walmart was “directed to pay $45,000,000” into a non-reversionary fund; the claim deadline was June 5, 2024 and has passed. On August 11, 2025 the court granted class counsel's motion authorizing distribution of the net fund to approved claimants. The order records that “Walmart has denied and continues to deny liability.” Claimants' communications come from [email protected], per the settlement website.
  • Money transfer, Spark Driver and California cases. See the regulator section for the FTC money-transfer case, the FTC and state Spark Driver judgment, and the California prosecutors' judgments.
  • Opioid litigation. Beyond the settlements and the Department of Justice complaint and its August 28, 2026 settlement described above, the 10-K lists the multidistrict litigation in the Northern District of Ohio and other cases. Per the later 10-Q, the Florida Health Sciences Center case ended in a mistrial, then a directed verdict and judgment for Walmart and other defendants, and the plaintiffs have appealed; a qui tam False Claims Act case in which the federal government declined to intervene is also reported settled for an immaterial amount without admitting liability.

The 10-K also describes matters outside this page's consumer scope (United Kingdom equal-pay claims against the former subsidiary Asda, Mexican and Indian competition proceedings and an Environmental Protection Agency finding); they are not summarized here. No other open Walmart consumer settlement claim deadline was identified in the sources checked on October 6, 2026.

Is Walmart Legitimate?

Walmart Inc. is a Delaware corporation that files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC; the latest are its Form 10-K for the fiscal year ended January 31, 2026 (filed March 13, 2026) and Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026 (filed August 28, 2026). It reports 4,611 Walmart U.S. stores and is listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market. BBB lists a headquarters profile for Walmart in Bentonville with an A+ rating, accreditation, and complaint and review counts that are shown in the complaint-record section above.

Walmart has also been the subject of the regulator and court matters described above, including an FTC money-transfer settlement in which Walmart neither admits nor denies the allegations, a $100 million Spark Driver judgment entered without admitting liability, a DOJ-announced $50 million opioid-dispensing settlement (claims described as allegations only), California prosecutors' judgments and a class settlement; the company's statements about those matters are quoted where available.

Unsolicited texts, emails and websites that use Walmart's name to offer prizes or gift cards exist. Walmart's Fraud Alerts page says to never send money or provide pre-paid or gift card information to someone you do not know, and “Walmart does not accept or send crypto in stores.” Check that you are on walmart.com and use the phone numbers published on Walmart's own contact and help pages; Marketplace sellers on walmart.com are separate sellers whose return terms can differ.

Docket 1:22-cv-03372
U.S. District Court, N.D. Illinois, Eastern DivisionFiledFiled — no final outcome recorded

The FTC alleged that between 2013 and 2018 Walmart, including as an agent of MoneyGram, Western Union and Ria, allowed fraudsters to use its money transfer services. An amended complaint followed in June 2023; in July 2024 the court dismissed the Telemarketing Sales Rule claim for the second time, and in November 2024 the Seventh Circuit granted Walmart permission to appeal certain rulings (FTC release). On June 20, 2025 the FTC announced a $10 million settlement and filed a stipulated order in which Walmart “neither admits nor denies any of the allegations in the Complaint.” The FTC's copy of the order is unsigned by the judge and the FTC's case page shows “Pending”; no court docket page was opened (CourtListener returned a rate-limit error on October 6, 2026), so the court's entry of the order is not confirmed here and status rests on the FTC's pages.

Final approval order of June 28, 2024: Walmart was “directed to pay $45,000,000” into a non-reversionary fund for class members who bought certain weighted goods and bagged citrus between October 19, 2018 and January 19, 2024; the claim deadline was June 5, 2024. The FTC and 11 states alleged Walmart deceived Spark drivers about base pay, incentive pay and tips and deceived customers that “100% of tips go to the driver.” Walmart's SEC filings say a stipulated order was entered on March 3, 2026 under which, “without admitting liability,” Walmart agreed to a $100 million judgment, about $63 million of it suspended, and 10 years of programmatic and reporting obligations. The FTC's FAQs say $79 million goes directly to drivers, $10 million to the FTC for distribution to drivers and $11 million to the 11 states as a civil penalty, and that eligible drivers do not need to file a claim. No court docket page was opened for this case (CourtListener returned a rate-limit error on October 6, 2026).

On September 23, 2026 the Sonoma County District Attorney announced a $16 million settlement with Walmart in an action brought by seven district attorneys, with an injunction against selling infant formula past its “use by” date and over-the-counter drugs past expiration in California stores and an expired-product compliance program. The release says the settlement was filed in Alameda County Superior Court; the date a judgment was entered is not stated in the release. The Alameda County District Attorney's release of the same date calls it a “$16 million settlement” and refers to “the terms of the judgment”; no court docket page was opened.

United States v. Walmart Inc. (Controlled Substances Act, pharmacy dispensing and distribution)U.S. District Court, D. DelawareSettledSettled

The Department of Justice's December 22, 2020 civil complaint (amended in 2022) alleged that Walmart pharmacies filled invalid prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances in violation of the Controlled Substances Act. On August 28, 2026 DOJ announced “a $50 million settlement with Walmart Inc.,” adding that “The claims resolved by the settlement are allegations only; there has been no determination of liability.” Walmart's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended July 31, 2026 says the company, “without admitting liability, has settled this matter for an immaterial amount, which was accrued as of July 31, 2026”; the 10-Q and DOJ describe the amount differently and both are given as stated. DOJ says Walmart also entered a memorandum of agreement with the DEA requiring a reporting hotline for employees and patients, monitoring of pharmacy dispensing, and a process to evaluate suspected prescribers. No court docket page was opened (CourtListener returned a rate-limit error on October 6, 2026), so the court's closing of the case is not confirmed here.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to return an item to Walmart, and what if I have no receipt?

Walmart's Return Policy (updated August 17, 2026) says “You have 90 days after purchase or upon receipt to exchange or return an item unless noted in our exceptions.” Exceptions include 2 days for major appliances, 14 days for most wireless phones, and 30 days for consumer electronics and most Marketplace items; gift cards and prepaid cell phone cards are final sale. Without a receipt, Walmart says it can try to look up the purchase by debit or credit card or, for online orders, by phone number or email; otherwise a valid government-issued photo ID is required and a Walmart gift card is issued if the return is accepted, with limits on the number and frequency of non-receipted returns. Marketplace sellers set their own processing and may charge restocking fees up to 20 percent.

How do I cancel Walmart+ and can I get a refund?

The Walmart+ Terms of Use (last updated September 28, 2026) say you may cancel by calling Walmart Customer Care at (800) 924-9206 or in your Walmart account under Account > Walmart+ (gear icon), and that trials auto-renew at full price unless otherwise provided. Cancelling lets you keep benefits until the end of the current term; to avoid a new term's charge you must cancel before it ends. On refunds, Walmart's Return Policy says memberships “may be refunded within 90 days unless used or activated,” while the Terms say the fee is “non-refundable except as expressly set forth in these Terms or as required by applicable law.” Ask Customer Care which applies and keep the answer in writing.

Does Walmart price match?

Walmart's Price Match Policy (updated June 8, 2023) says that in a U.S. store it will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com, if you tell the associate at checkout and the item is in stock on Walmart.com. It does not match competitors' prices, Walmart.com special-event prices (clearance, Rollback, Black Friday), Marketplace sellers' prices or prices from other Walmart stores, and the store manager on duty has the final decision. On Walmart.com the policy says it does not price match competitors or Marketplace sellers.

What did the FTC allege about Walmart money transfers, and what should I do if I sent money to someone who defrauded me?

The FTC's complaint alleged that between 2013 and 2018 Walmart, including as an agent of MoneyGram, Western Union and Ria, allowed scammers to use its money transfer services to take hundreds of millions of dollars from consumers. On June 20, 2025 the FTC announced a $10 million settlement; in the stipulated order Walmart neither admits nor denies the allegations, and the court's entry date was not confirmed in the sources checked. Walmart's 2022 statement disputed the suit and said it had stopped hundreds of thousands of suspicious transactions. If you sent money to someone who defrauded you, Walmart's Return Policy says a transfer may be refunded to the sender “if the funds have not been received or deposited,” with the reference number (MTCN) and identification; contact the transfer company right away and report the fraud at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

What about the texts and emails that say I won a $1,000 Walmart gift card?

Walmart's Fraud Alerts page says: “Never send money or provide pre-paid or gift card information to someone you do not know,” and to contact the FTC or your state attorney general's consumer fraud division if you suspect fraud. This site's archive holds more than a thousand posts, mostly from 2012, describing such prize texts; they report third parties using Walmart's name and are not linked to this page as complaints about Walmart. Do not click the link or give personal or card details.

Can I still claim money from a Walmart settlement?

The $45,000,000 weighted-goods and bagged-citrus class settlement (Kukorinis v. Walmart, M.D. Fla.) had a claim deadline of June 5, 2024, which has passed; the court authorized distribution to approved claimants on August 11, 2025, and the settlement website says claimant emails come from [email protected]. Los Angeles County's August 3, 2026 settlement describes a $388,817 restitution fund for eligible customers who visited Walmart's website from January 1, 2020 to May 20, 2024, but the release text read here does not explain how to claim; the County's consumer affairs department lists (800) 593-8222. No other open Walmart consumer claim deadline was identified in the sources checked on October 6, 2026.

How do I check whether a Walmart product has been recalled?

Walmart lists food and product recalls at corporate.walmart.com/recalls, and recall notices give Walmart's 800-925-6278 line (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT) and walmart.com/help. On October 1, 2026 the CPSC announced a recall of about 4.4 million Walmart Expert Grill metal wire bristle grill brushes (hazard: bristles can detach and be ingested; CPSC says consumers should stop using the brushes immediately and contact Walmart for a full refund or a credit; no incidents reported). Walmart's list also includes many third-party products sold at Walmart.com, which are the manufacturer's or seller's recalls. To report a product problem, use SaferProducts.gov.

Who do I contact about a problem with Walmart?

Walmart's contact page lists 1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART) and the Walmart.com Help Center with online chat. Walmart+ cancellation questions go to (800) 924-9206 per the Walmart+ Terms. Injury or property-damage claims are handled by Walmart Claims Services, Inc. (sometimes Claims Management, Inc.). Walmart MoneyCard problems go to that program's Customer Care at (877) 937-4098, and the CFPB accepts complaints about financial products. For healthcare services (pharmacy, vision center, care clinic) Walmart's Policies page gives a grievance route at 1-800-WM-Ethic or [email protected]. If Walmart does not resolve a dispute, you can also complain to your state attorney general's consumer protection office or file with the BBB; BBB's counts for Walmart are in the complaint-record section.

Does Walmart require arbitration of disputes?

The Walmart.com Terms of Use (last updated September 9, 2026) contain a mandatory arbitration agreement that says disputes will be resolved “through final and binding arbitration before a single neutral arbitrator instead of in a court by a judge or jury,” and a class action waiver; either side may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it falls within that court's jurisdiction. The Walmart+ Terms incorporate the same arbitration provision.
