Hello,
I am writing to report that we were grossly overcharged by Sears Home Services for an in-home freezer repair. To put it plainly, we were ripped off and we want others to know about it so they don't experience the same unjust exploitation.
We received an email before the visit that listed the estimated cost as $65 as well as the guarantee that they would give us an estimate before starting work. We received no estimate from the tech.
The repair of our freezer took no more than 20 min. We had ice build up on the bottom that the tech diagnosed as being caused by ice blocking the opening of a drain at the back of the freezer. He asked me to boil water. We waited for it to boil. He poured 2 cups of hot water over the ice, which unclogged the drain. Freezer repaired. I helped him clear away the remaining ice at the bottom of the freezer. The total charge for "labor" on the non-itemized bill was $192.
We disputed the $192 charge through Sears' billing department and they responded by leaving a voicemail at 8 PM at night to say that the "charge was correct."
We have been violated. Please help spread the word about these unsavory, reprehensible business practices.
Thanks,
Stacie B.
