After attmepting the "free 30 day trial", I found that Netscape was totally dishonest in their customer disclosures (failures to disclose the real truth) I was told that I was required to get a year long contract with them. I immediately refused and tried to cancel my request.
In their next attempt to trap me, they attempted to say that I could join on a monthly basis, but I wouldn't get spam or virus protection. I agreed and said I didnt need it. They also said they needed my credit card or checking account info to start service, which I gave them. I was able to sign on immediately, but they also lied about helping to configure my Outlook Express to receive mails... They never even tried to do that!
All of a sudden after everything was working fine for the next day of service (day 2), day 3 came when I could not access my email. Having the proper password and trying it many times, they put me through to their tech service 3 times and they were still unable to resolve the email access failure problem.
I called that same day to cancel, and all of a sudden, I am informed that the 30 day trail was for the year long contract only, not for "my service". I told them that if I was billed for a service that failed to disclose this and had lied to me, that this is considered fraudulent and unethical business practice!
Roland proceeded to argue with me and I hung up after telling them I was going to file formal FCC, PUC and Consumer Complaints about their fraudulent business practices, etc... I also informed him that consumer fraud and false statemetns is against the law in America (they all sound Inidan or Pakistani). I also told them that I only joined because of the 30-day free trial and he said he had already taken my money! What a scam... Must be a bad business if they have to try to trap you!!! It was worht it for me to try a new local carrier... And they speak English!!!
