On January 24th eBay ID SJN69 was the high bidder on two LOTS of electrical supplies on eBay. We invoiced the customer right away. Steve then called our office and paid for the material with his credit card. The material was shipped to 200 North Belt East. Material showed delivered and signed for. Customer left positive feedback stating "Good Shipper" on eBay. Three weeks later merchant services contacts us about a chargeback against the transacion. I immediately called the customers office and left messages with his receptionist for over a week. No return call. I found the customers cell number a week later and managed to get hold of him. When I spoke to him he stated he didn't know me, my company, about the material etc etc. I asked him about the address, and if that was his shop to which he denied knowing anything of the sort.
I then contacted the local Police department, who happened to know this individual on a first name basis (and it was not because he is an upstanding citizen I was informed). The police confirmed that the address in question was indeed his shop address. I checked his User ID on eBay and noticed he was still making quite a few purchases online (He also stated "He though he might have an eBay ID but wasn't sure")
I once again called and informed Steve that I knew the address was his shop, to which the story changed to "Thats my parents building". Funny how he didn't know that before. Nonetheless, we have itemized details from UPS showing the material delivered and signed for and have recieved feedback from the transaction. I was informed that because the payment was made by telephone this would be classified as Wire-Fraud, a Federal offense.
I have spoken to the Credit Cards issuing bank and reported it as "Abuse of the Credit Card Privelages and policies" and have also reported it to eBay as fraud. We will also be filing with the FBI and IFCC shortly as well as the local Police Dept. From the shipping location. They will then forward the complaint to the Swansea police, who I have noo doubt will take a bit of pleasure in picking this guy up. My question is what have I missed, are there any other agencies I file with to ensure this person is held accountable for his theft/attempted theft?
I would feel bad if someone at his shop took the items without him knowing, however that is not really my problem. I as the shipper got the material to his address intact and my responsibility should end there, am I correct in thinking that?
