I contacted DishNet thru a website about their $19.99 offer for my Mom. Someone called me almost immediately. I told the rep that we wanted 3 things: local stations from Altoona, PA even though the installation would be in Fayetteville, PA, Big 10 network, and Fox Sports Pittsburgh (FSP). The rep said that we could have it all for $29.99 per month for the first 12 months, then we would be charged the regular price for the next 12 months. I made sure they understood that the local stations were from ZIP CODE 16602 but I wanted the install at ZIP CODE 17222. I was told we could have it so I agreed to their offer.
I received a confirmation email the next day that listed local stations but didn't list FSP so I called the number on the email. I was assured that I was getting FSP. The next day, the installer came so the first thing I did was look at his work order. It did not list fox sports pittsburgh!!! I told the installer: no, this is not what i ordered. He called in and talked to someone who assured him that we would have FSP on channel 428. Okay, I said, do the install.
Bait and Switch #1
After the install, the guy turned on the set and we asked him to show us FSP. That channel was NOT AVAILABLE to us!!! He had to call in and we were told that we would have to pay AN ADDITIONAL $6 to get FSP! I got mad and said that I didn't want the service but my Mom said that it was okay, she would pay the extra $6 per month. We had to cancel our first plan and sign up for the second offer. As we signed up for the second plan, the rep told us that we already had FSP on our first plan. This was wrong. We still ended up having to pay the extra $6 to get what we were told we could get for $29.99.
Bait and Switch #2
We did not get Altoona local channels!!! The whole idea of local channels from Altoona was so my Mom could watch Altoona news... She moved 100 miles away from the Altoona area to Fayetteville. We were told it was against the law for us to get local channels outside of our ZIP code after we were told that we could get local channels from outside our ZIP code.
Bait and Switch #3
I found out that they raised the price on my $6 sports package by over 16% after only two months. Give me one price, then raise it when I'm not looking!
Then, after only eight months, they raised the $29.99 price by over 16%. It was supposed to be set for the first 12 months. I called and complained to one customer service rep (CSR). They told me that their costs went up so my price went up. I told the CSR that my price was to be set for 12 months. They asked me if I wanted to talk the a higher level person which I did. This person said that they would be able to give me $5 off of my bill for the next 12 months. We shall see if I have to keep calling back in to get the correct price.
The price of my service went up almost 37% in only 8 months time.
