Dish Network
Cust. Retention Bait&Switch. Offer lower price to stay 2 more yrs, then increase it back, the 1st month!

Dish Network is conducting a Scam that is going to catch up with them. It's shocking that Cable Regulators have not stopped it yet, as it is against all reasonable laws regarding contract agreements. I have been with Dish Network 4 years and in the mail I recieved an invitation to have 2 free movie channels free for 6 months if I signed for 2 yrs again. To price compare, I called Direct TV from the number on their weekly mail offers. They offer new subscribers 210 channels for $34.99 2 DVR's taxes & insurance $50.99 per month. Then higher price the 2nd yr after rebates expire.

On Oct 12,10 I talked to a dish representative who could not give me similar price, even from their own Dish Mail offer (I was also holding), as it was only for "New" Dish Subscribers and not current customers. So I asked what I needed to do to cancel as I would be switching to Direct tv to save money. He transfered me to Brenda in the Retention dept. She restated that she could discount the bill and offer free movie channels for 3 months but not close to the price the offers. When I wanted to end service, she said she could honor the new subscriber price, it would be a total of $52.99 a month after taxes, then increase the 2nd yr as direct tv. I agreed and let her record our conversation for the agreement for extending to 2yr contract with all the detailed programming choices and the $52.99 monthly total price. I scheduled service call oct 20th for upgrades.

My second statement (after install fees & adjustments were on the 1st statement) was $30 higher than agreed! No discount applied, just a record of the changes & the new 2YR agreement. The supervisor Sam456 said there is only record of Benda offering $10 a month discount the first year & that I am not elligable for "new customer" pricing! It sounds like customer retention means giving the advertised price to hold you "Hostage" for 2 more years then, use the internet agreement that the price or programming can change at any time to Jack it back up. If a price change (or a Bait & switch) occurs a few weeks after the contract starts, is it not legal to offer a cancellation option without penalty??? Dish is pulling off Consumer Fraud to keep customers from switching, recording conversations to benefit themselves when necessary, while holding the consumer to their agreement for 2 yr. Contracts.
