The Human component of checking out and paying is not going to survive against the faster and nicer self check out lanes. Today I stopped in a Home Depot to buy an electrical tool and some drywall anchors. I see a self check out line open and one person checking people out the old fashion way. Liking interaction with humans I went to the cashiers lane hoping for quick service; boy was I wrong. After she checked out the customer in front of me she walked away from her register. Just left to go do something else. I couldn't believe it and being that I had somewhere else to be I spoke up saying "Excuse me I am in a bit of a rush. I have to pick up my kid from school soon." She reluctantly came over and grabbed the items, in an upset manor, and started scanning the two items. While she did this she said "Not like I don't have a job to do or anything."
I wanted to say "Lady, I am your job now do it." But I didn't. I kept to myself. She then asked a question "I guess you're running a little late huh?" I replied "Sure." She then said in a snotty voice "I guess that is all my fault that you are running late."
I blew up from that. Yes actually she was making me run behind because she decided to do something else other than her JOB! So frustrating. I demanded my money back. She tried saying it was too late the transaction went through. I asked for a manager and one came over. The whole time the cashier, who by the way was in her 40's easily, was talking under her breath like a five year old. The manager tried to say I need to take it over to customer service for a refund..."NOPE" I want my fifty back right now. I told her I was not moving till I got my money. After 2 whole seconds... Oh that was hard I got my money back. Funny thing is. Lowe's is building across the street. I told them I couldn't wait till it opened. Worst service of my life.
