Because two installers of Dish were unable to upgrade my equipment to HD I switched to Direct TV. The technician for Direct TV took the old Dish receivers with him as I assumed they were of no use (kind of like old mattresses).

Obviously, they cannot be activated without Dish assistance. I am now being billed for two receivers and it has been turned over to collection and reported on my credit report. I have asked the collection company repeatedly to sue me. The Dish satellite remains attached to the outside of my home along with the Direct TV satellite due to the ineptness of the Dish installer.

In the past when I had trouble with a receiver, a technician would just upgrade and leave the old receiver and they were eventually discarded.

My mother, has three old receivers in a storage shed that she has never been asked to return whenever an upgrade took place. However, she did not discontinue her service with Dish as I did.

There is apparently some disparity as to how Dish treat continuing customers regarding old equipment and customers who discontinue service regarding old equipment.
