I bought an extended warranty from Circuit City for my 35" GE TV in 1999. I have religiously paid each year on the renewal, until this year I have never claimed against the warranty, but, since 3/2, when i asked for an in house repair to be done, I have lived the nightmare of the automated phone system & the loop of service people. The technician told me my TV could not be repaired as the company don't have the neccessary parts to fix the problem (sound keeps going off). I have made a total of between 6-8 calls to Circuit City Warranty Division, have 2 IM #'s (these are numbers of a "higher power" - decision makers)& am still with a TV that doesn't work properly.
My warranty says (& here's the joke) "Hassle-free repair or Replacement. As my TV can't be repaired, I believe I fall into the category of replacement. Over the 6 years I have renewed my warranty I must have paid Circuit City between $700 - $900 & so fully believe that I must have paid them for a new TV just in the warranty charges.
I have left a voice mail with their legal department & will if no response is received call the BBB. I would like to forewarn others that unless you want to donate your money to Circuit City, a warranty on appliances older than 2-3 years is simply just a waste of your money.
