This appliance repair service is way overpriced. Unfortunately I was not given the opportunity to decline their work. I was an outgoing tenant whose property manager authorized these people to do repairs on an electric range temperature control switch. Had I been the one to authorize the work, I would have said NO (after a good laugh)...
I was able to obtain 2 other estimates from comparable companies for far less. Their charges were about $80 for a service call. Not sure why they marked up the parts so much and the 'fee' for the work on their second visit... But their bill came to over $330. All told we were out $400. This was deducted from my security deposit and essentially nothing I could do about it.
Multiple calls and emails to Aviv Service Today was without any resolution on their overpriced 'rip off' so I am reporting it in this venue to warn others off of this company. There are just too many other outfits that do as good or even better work for far less money. They have come across as arrogant, un-budging on a resolution to 'please their customers' and showing disrespect and disregard in their customer service.
In all fairness I will report the follow up email I received from the COO. The range was a micro-range Avanti with a blown burner switch... Avanti of Florida reported the part was only $30 and that included shipping fees. Given an $80 service call and a follow up visit to do the work (which I am sure a monkey could have done)... Came eventually to $400. Two other service companies in Charleston quoted: $120 and about $180.
Basically they charged more than twice or even three times as much to do a simple 'switch out' of an electrical range temperature control switch. Why pay $400 when you can pay $120? I certainly would not have if given the choice, however, the property manager made the choice (why would he care, it was not skin off his back).
After getting no-where with these people (multiple phone calls and email)... I decided to report them to SC Customer Affairs and also this forum (additionally I will alert the BBB and Angie's List).
They obviously don't know contemporary customer service protocols nor do they exert customary and usual pricing. Amazing they are still in business in today's economy. (if you wish to receive an explanation by the COO, you can email me and I will provide a copy for you)
Warning to others. If you need appliance repair and are considering this outfit, I would advise getting 2 other estimates. This is NOT brain surgery, but a simple repair of an appliance, and any capable technician in the area would be able to do a good job. Why pay more.
