I guess I should have found this site before I made the decision to make a layaway at Sears. At the time the option seemed like it would work for me because I didnt have all of the money at the time. I made the initial payment plus two additional payments before it was cancelled due to non-payment. I went in store on Wednesday May 11 to get my money back. I was told by Matt the sales associate that he couldnt pull it up in the system which meant it was cancelled. When I inquired about getting my money back, he said I would get a check in the mail... HERE'S WHERE MY PROBLEM LIES!!! I paid sears with a debit card and once on paypal and if their policy states that you receive a refund, why must a customer wait weeks or months before they receive their money back! Their layway policy simply states "If layaways merchandise is Returned to Stock for delinquency of payment, the customer is eligible for a refund minus the Service and Cancellation Fees". No where does it state that the the refund would be in the form of a mailed check within 2 weeks to 90 days. The sales associate never told me this when I started the layaway. I feel like this is a very important bit of information that the customer should be informed of and it should be included on the receipt and online for customers to see! This is not something that should be told once the layaway is cancelled and looking for a refund.
