I was ripped-off by AAMCO Transmission in Houston, TX and in Round Rock, TX.
I am writing to provide details of my disputes for the charges assessed by AAMCO Transmissions ($2954.45 on 12/04 at AAMCO in Houston, TX and another $187.74 on 12/19 at AAMCO in Round Rock, TX) on my Citi Cards credit card for inadequate, incorrectly, and improper repair work on my vehicle's transmission.
The Problem (s):
As of today Monday 01/05, my vehicle is still NOT operating properly and the transmission on my vehicle is still NOT fully repaired by AAMCO Transmissions to original specifications as inspected and certified by an authorized automotive repair shop (Classic Toyota Services) from the vehicle's manufacturer.
The Dispute (s):
* AAMCO did not adequately or properly repair the transmission on my vehicle and continues to refuse and delay corrective repair work under their 12 months/12,000 miles warranty for the rebuilt transmission on my vehicle.
* AAMCO misrepresented the original repair work quoted by AAMCO at under $2000 (or less than the cost $4000 estimated by Toyota Services) and then overcharged $2954.45 on 19 hours labor costs for the original inadequate repair services provided on my vehicle's transmission.
* AAMCO assessed additional charges ($187.74 on 12/19 at AAMCO in Round Rock, TX) for parts needed by my vehicle's transmission to attempt to correct the original repair work by AAMCO in Houston, TX.
The Details:
On 12/03/08 (at 11 AM CST), AAMCO Transmission in Houston, TX towed my vehicle to their shop for repair and promised to "save thousands of dollars and would only charge about 1/2 the cost of $4000 quoted by another Toyota Dealer repair shop". This was misrepresented by AAMCO since the actual cost charged by AAMCO in Houston, TX for completing the repair was $2954.45 when it was originally quoted for less than $2000.
On 12/04/08 (at 3 PM CST), AAMCO completed original repair on my vehicle's transmission and charged 19 hours of labor (totaling $2954.45 for parts & labor) when the repair shop was opened for only a total of 12 hrs from when my vehicle was towed-in at 11 AM 12/02/08.
I paid the $2954.45 for original repair and picked-up my vehicle on 12/04/08 and discovered an "ABS" warning light for a failed speed sensor that was NOT broken before vehicle was towed into the AAMCO shop in Houston, TX. AAMCO's Service Manager (Mr. Alan) informed me this "ABS" warning light is NOT related to transmission and that my vehicle repair was fully completed and safe to drive home from Houston, TX to Austin, TX.
On 12/15/08, my vehicle excessively leaks transmission fluid and violently hard-shifts into Drive and Overdrive gears. I took my vehicle to an AAMCO shop in Round Rock, TX for additional repairs. I was informed the original repair work was inadequate, the transmission fluid pan needs new sealants, and the transmission now needs a new speed senor related to "ABS" warning light and needed for transmission gears to shift correctly/smoothly and not hard-shift violently.
AAMCO in Round Rock, TX quoted an additional $400 for parts & labor to repair the speed senor needed for my transmission and Mr. Alan from the original AAMCO repair shop in Houston, TX refuses to pay for the additional repairs. Mr. Alan claims the additional repairs to correct the ABS warning light problem is NOT covered under the original repair's warranty and used profanity and hang-up up the phone every time I or Service Manager from the AAMCO repair shop in Round Rock, TX attempted to contact Mr. Alan about the matter.
On 12/17, the Service Manager from AAMCO repair shop in Round Rock, TX (Mr. Daymon Gregg) where my vehicle's being serviced to correct original repair work by AAMCO repair shop in Houston, TX) informed me that the transmission is missing a Shaft Housing sealer at the rear of the transmission unit and this contributes to the transmission fluid leakage and severe wearing of the shaft. The original repair work on my vehicle's transmission was rushed and NOT adequately repaired by the AAMCO shop in Houston, TX.
I also contacted AAMCO Corporate Customer Service (Phone: 1-800-292-8500 Ext. 370) and spoke with Ms. April Battle-Johnson and she spoke with the AAMCO Service Managers at the AAMCO shops in Houston, TX and Round Rock, TX. However, she was NOT able to help resolve the matter and the AAMCO Service Managers claim that the speed sensors needed by the transmission is separate, has an additional cost of $187.74, and my vehicle's transmission should work properly after the speed sensors are replaced.
On 12/19, my vehicle has been in the AAMCO repair shop in Round Rock, TX for 5 days to attempt to correct the original repair work by AAMCO in Houston, TX. The AAMCO repair shop in Round Rock, TX assessed another $187.74 for additional parts & labor needed for work on the speed sensor needed for my vehicle's transmission to work properly. However my vehicle continues to violently hard-shift into Drive gear and hard-shifts in between gears. The AAMCO Service Manager informed me that I should just drive the vehicle for a couple weeks and the hard-shifting should disappear, otherwise I should bring my vehicle back to AAMCO for additional repairs since the AAMCO technicians are on holidays/vacation.
AAMCO in Round Rock, TX assessed an additional $187.74 on my credit card for parts (i.E. Speed sensors) needed by my vehicle's transmission, however they were NOT able to correctly repair my transmission to proper working conditions.
On 12/29, I was not able to schedule additional repairs by AAMCO repair shop in Round Rock, TX and so I brought the vehicle into Classic Toyota Service repair shop in Round Rock, TX (an authorized automotive repair shop from the vehicle's manufacturer) to inspect and certify that my vehicle's transmission still has internal failure, hard-shifts into Drive and in between gears, and was NOT repaired to original specification by the AAMCO repair shop in Houston, TX.
On 01/05, I brought my vehicle to another AAMCO repair shop in Austin, TX. The AAMCO Service Manager (Mr. Jose Berenguel) inspected my vehicle and confirmed the inspection by Classic Toyota Service repair shop in Round Rock, TX that my vehicle's transmission is NOT fully repaired to proper working conditions. However, his repair shop already has too much repair work in progress and would NOT be able to repair my vehicle for possibly another 2 weeks.
As of today 01/05, my vehicle's transmission is still NOT in proper working conditions and I have paid AAMCO a total of $3142.19 in 2 separate charges assessed on my Citi Cards credit card. Over the last 2 weeks, I have left several voice messages for Ms. April Battle-Johnson at AAMCO Corporate Customer Service (Phone: 1-800-292-8500 Ext. 370), however I still have NOT heard from her.
As requested, I am attaching all supporting documentation from AAMCO Transmissions and Classic Toyota Service department along with contact information for the various AAMCO and Toyota repair shops in Houston, Round Rock, and Austin, TX. I am also attaching a copy of the complaint I have filed with the Texas Better Business Bureau and I will be filing a civil lawsuit against AAMCO Transmission in the coming weeks.
