On Jan 9, I put 42 business checks, worth $4715.42 altogether, into my account at the Citibank branch at 6414 18th Ave., Brooklyn, New York. The money did not show up in my account until March 13. Then on April 25, Citibank took $4715.42 back out of my account, without telling me and without sending any letter of explanation. A supervisor in customer service told me the branch refuses to restore the credit, since the checks were destroyed and no copies exist. They simply put the blame on me. Is this really the customer's fault? They asked why I had waited so long to return. What kind of answer is that? Suppose something had happened to me and I could not get back to the bank. Would I then deserve to lose my money without any notice? Can Citibank do whatever it likes with a customer's account without warning, never mind getting the account holder's approval?
Should people be wary about keeping their money with Citibank? Can anyone trust that bank?
