On Sept. 21, I reserved a room for November 7 and 8.
The cost of this room including all charges would be $110 US per night (total $225.25 US)
Five days later, I cancelled. The cancellation cost is $148.10 US. (Service chage plus 1 night accomodation plus tax) That is, $38 more than the cost of the room.
I read the cancellation ploicy and found it vague. I couldn't believe that a cancellation 6 weeks early would cost more than the room. My fault? Not entirely. This company has serveral websites. One states clearly that cancelling 48 hours prior will result in a small service charge ($35 US)
They ignored my reference to this site. I downloaded the USER Agreement which states their point of view - but it suggests that it is the hotel's cancellation policy which determines the total cost. The hotel's website confirms the 48-hour cancellation = OK system.
