On-line gift card purchases - customer service

My Wife has used the Kohl's gift cards on-line for purchases. She does this to support of daughter & husband by purchasing infant clothing for our 2 grand daughters. They are stationed in Aviano Air Force Base Italy.in this purchase my wife had $85 of gift cards for a $126 Purchase. She entered all the required gift card information for credit toward the purchase. Since she had not an issue with a previous on-line & gift card purchase, she went on her way, believing gift card credits were not an issue. Upon reviewing her order confirmation later that day she found the on-line system did not take or give the $85 gift cards credit toward the purchase. She called for assistance and in both cases KOHL'S had no means or solution for what happened. They could not remedy the system error or apply the $85 of gift cards toward the purchase. Essentially we absorbed the total cost of $126 & could not be cancelled if the order placed exceeded a 1 hr timeframe. Because of a on-line system issue or error, not a customer operator error, the customer absorbs the full cost. I believe, under this type of circumstance KOHL's should have to compensate the customer for the system error & lack of business flexibility issues of this nature and/or customer inconvienance.
