The Chatsworth office lowballed me ($4000) and reasured me on my out of state move. When they came to pick up my items they had a smaller truck than arranged and told me I would not be getting a bigger truck as planned but using 2 unmarked small trucks. They made me repack my filing cabinet items while they taped everything insight and charged me $15 each box without my approval! They charged me $2300 total for packing materials when I had boxed everything myself! They left for 6 hours and returned at night with an even smaller truck to fill. They loaded through the night leaving my piano, rabbit cages, etc left over for me to move myself instead of the boxes that could have gone into their "free storage". They put together a second Bill of Lading (doubling my original estimate) and refused to leave at 11:30 pm until I signed it.
Everything was supposed to go on one big truck directly.instead they stored it in Hayward without my permission. Reluctantly they came back the next day and picked up the remaining 20 items. They refused to tell me where the wharehouse was and said they would not charge me for the 3rd load if I wrote a good review for them on the better business bureau. I refused to do so until my items were delivered. They changed the moving date to "up to 3 weeks" and I would need to pay cash $10,000 immediately to their Hayward Wharehouse. They said I would not see my items again if I didn't do it.
Worried now, I looked them up on the internet and found them to be previously Benny's movers with alot of lawsuits and a bad reputation. I sent emails to the sales office asking alot of questions and they refused to respond. They ended up hanging up on me when I mentioned using a lawyer. They now had my belongings and there was nothing I could do!
In fear of never seeing my belongings again, I spoke with someone different, told them the story and asked if I could just pick up my things and be done. They said they no longer could accept Visa and I could pay the whole amount of the original quote and pick my things up at the Hayward wharehouse in 2 days. I now have gone 5 days without my belongings moving anywhere! They were originally scheduled to be at our new home by 8 days!
We ended up paying the full $4000 just to get our things back in our possession. We no longer trusted what they would do. When we did get our things out of the wharehouse we noticed other people's items that were well overdue for delivery to places like New York, FLorida, etc.
The website says their warehouse is huge, but it was really small with one loading door. Our items were in 3 different places all over the wharehouse. It was not very organized. The owner would not let me take any of the blankets that were already wrapped on my items. He wanted to charge me in addition to the $2300 to use them and send them back. We had to spend time unwrapping everything that had a blanket and rewrap with ours. He refused to give me a proper reciept for the cash I had to give him.
So, I called the Hayward police. He started yelling at the movers I had hired and calling them theives and yelling at my husband. He lost control. He ended up giving me a proper receipt afterall and the police monitored the rest of the move.
We ended up loading everything into 2 trucks, which Globe could not do. There were 8 items with no tracking numbers that I would not have gotten at my new home had I not been there monitoring. I ended up paying $4000 for a local move (which they are not licensed to do) and paying $10000 to rent 2 Penske trucks last minute. The only items broken in the move were the items Globe Van packed. I added up all the bubble wrap and boxes and I was extremely overcharged.
