Being that I live in Austin, Timewarner owns almost all the cable rights in apartments. I was ok with this until my digital box freaked out, and I found out how much cheaper rates were in other areas. I don't like being forced to choose something so I had no choice but to live with it. THEN, I saw a Grande truck servicing someone in my area, and called them to see if they offered service at my apartment complex.
I was informed that they offered cable internet and phone service. I was like great, I can save money and get rid of time warner for the most part. So I set up a date for them to install service. They call me 4 days before my scheduled day to say they were going to install it and that they don't have cable internet in my area, only dsl. So I cancelled my order.
Two weeks go by and Timewarner does something to irritate me so i reconsider the DSL option and decide that it wouldn't be too bad. I call them back and set up a date for service. The day comes and the tech they send out is very new to the job and said I was his second job ever. I didn't really mind until two hours later when he was still there trying to make my phone work. He got so frustrated that once he got a dial tone asked me to sign a form so that he could leave. I explained to him my internet wasn't working and he responded with "yeah so, could you just write me a check now, i have other people to see" So i was like SURE THANKS FOR NOTHING. And off he went.
Later that day, when my mother tried to call my landline, she told me it gave her a disconnected tone. I told her that i can call out so that was odd. I called it with my cell phone to see, and sure enough, I was unable to receive calls. Kind of defeats the purpose of a home phone I think. Then I called tech support about my internet and they informed me that it was my router's fault that the internet wouldn't work. I explained to them that the router works just find with timewarner and ATT so I don't believe that it is the router. We went back and forth for awhile and their only solution was to plug my computer directly into the modem.
Sorry, i don't feel like gathering around a modem with my family and friends to use the internet. Just wasn't going to happen. So I cancelled the service.
Today I got a bill for my charges of installation, account set up and then some cable fees. Funny that i am being charged for cable I don't have. They aren't getting a dime out of me because frankly nothing was installed properly. I think for it to be installed it has to work.
If you live in an apartment complex, get direct tv or dish network if available, otherwise pay extra for timewarner.
