There is no other cable company that provides service to our apartment complex, so I'm stuck. I pay directly to the complex for basic cable with my rent each month. Lousy service. My ABC channel is in black and white!!! I called Comcast and told them I wanted to order digital cable and would there be a charge. No... Not if we install it. Their schedule and mine didn't agree, and I asked them (since I was told there were no locations in my area) if they could just mail me the box. No. That would cost $...insurance and postage. So, as long as it was free, I would then wait the 2 weeks to have it installed. When the tech came to install my converter box, he explained that he didn't have a box that worked. None of them worked, BUT. He did have a DVR that he could install. Told him I already had a DVR and didn't need one, so he should just leave if he didn't have a box. He called someone and they said to install the DVR for now and when he got a box that worked, he could swap it out. Since I was working 7 days a week and 2 nights, his schedule and mine were not on the same "wavelength". Well, out to his vehicle he goes and lo and behold... It's a miracle... The box fixed itself in the truck! LIE #1. After it's installed, he wants $25 service charge. I was told it would be free, that's why I waited the 2 weeks to get it installed. Lie #2. I told him I was going to call customer service and he told me no one would be there on a Saturday. I called anyway and lo and behold... Another miracle... And another lie. This one is #3. I couldn't get anywhere with the customer service person about the lies, even after I provided a name of who told me I could get it installed for free. Ok... Take the equipment out... Get out of my apartment. He starts arguing and I kick him out with the equipment. Told him to take the modem also. He can't because he didn't install it. So... I call up the next day to find out how to get the internet out of my apartment also and they tell me to disconnect it and bring it in to a location only 2 miles from my apartment. Lie #4. I could have picked up the converter box and saved a lot of hassle and kicking the tech out of my place. I actually did pick up the converter box and had digital for a little while until all the bills started to come in completely wrong. They were still trying to charge me the $25 service charge. NOT GONNA HAPPEN! I would come home and it would work, then it wouldn't work... Unplug and let it reset... Then it would work for awhile and then it would stop. But... I was actually getting ABC in color now. After numerous calls and complaints, I had had enough of Comcast and took it back to the place I picked it up at, and not too soon, either. They were closing that office. Now if I want a converter box, I have to wait for that same tech I kicked out of my apartment, and go through the billing hassles again. My only wish is that Verizon or someone would come into the area. I don't like this monopoly that is going on with Comcast. They tried to charge me for months I didn't have the internet and the digital cable, etc. I finally got the bill straightened out... At least I think I did... They just wore me down and I paid the final bill. Never again will I deal with them, except to pay for my cable through the complex. ABC is still in black and white. That's not being very nice to my new HD flatscreen TV!!
