BCK Communications - Gerald Dell
Installer promised me local channels and I payed for it

I ordered direct tv through BCK who hired Gerald Dell (Independent installer from Ocala, FL) to install my system. Upon ordering the package I requested local channels and was told it was available in my area (High Springs, FL).

When the installer arrived (Jan. 05) I should have told them to leave on the spot. Gerald Dell arrived in a broken down thunderbird with his two sidekicks dressed like they just crawled out of some nasty hole. He took out his handy boyscout compass and checked for a good spot to install the dish.

He told me that I had two choices. If I wanted locals he would need to use a special dish that required a pole mount but if I didn't want locals he would mount the regular dish on the roof. Because I wanted locals I went for the pole mount. This came with a price of $100 which he would only accept in cash. Another signal that something wasn't right.

He wrote me out a receipt and mounted the dish on a pole, ran the wire, and installed the system. He used pliers to incorrectly crimp the connectors and broke the wall outlet plates telling me I needed to buy new ones. The cables were attached to the house by 1 rusty screw in which the wind took care of the next day.

The DVR he installed was not working because of a poor signal? So he had to come back the next day to install another DVR. When activating the system, they called Direct tv and I was asked what package I wanted to have. I chose the total choice package which included local channels.

The direct tv representative activated it and things seemed fine. Gerald and his arguing sidekicks left and within 5 minutes I noticed that we were not getting local channels. I immediately contacted Gerald and he said it was not his problem and that it was a programming problem with Direct TV.

I contacted Direct TV and BCK that night (Jan. 06) and after much hassle they finally told me I was not able to receive locals in that area. When hearing this I demanded to have my system returned and my money back but this was a long drawn out process with many managers involved from BCK: Tom, Jerry, Dave, and Patrick to name a few.

I was cleared of the contract and my initial payment of $64.19 was reimbursed to me on Jan. 16. I tried to get the $100 polemount fee back but Gerald and BCK refused saying that the service for mounting the dish was completed. Yes, the dish mount was completed under misleading intentions (local channels).

When I contacted Gerald Dell on Jan. 18 he changed his story from providing me installing options to I had to mount it on a pole in order to get a good line of sight. So now its a "he said I said" situation. Gerald and Patrick (BCK manager) refused to return my $100.

When I talked to Patrick he said that BCK lost a lot of money on me already and that they are not responsible for whatever service I paid Gerald Dell. BCK refuses to take responsibility for their mistakes and continues to let Gerald Dell install for them.

On Jan. 10 I had Dish network install there satellite system. They hired DAB's (Independent contractors) to install there system and it was professionally done. DAB's saw Gerald Dell's install and could not believe the shaddy work that he had done. They fixed all the cable connectors, wall outlets, and outside cabling. The pole that was mounted for directv fell several days after install and DAB's said it was because of poor install.

DAB's mounted their dish on a pole and charged it through dishnetwork ($70) and I immediately had local channels.

This is my first experience with BCK Communications and I will never do business with them or Gerald Dell again. If a member of the armed forces can be taken advantage of by BCK and Gerald Dell than how many others have fallen victim. I hope that someone can stop BCK from continuing to hire shaddy installers and take responsibility for their inappropriate actions. The customer should not have to pay for the mistakes of a company.
