Lousy repair and worse customer service!

We requested Sears to come and repair a GE gas cooktop. The repairman sent out for the estimate had to order the parts, which took a week and a half to come in. When he returned to make the repair, he obviously did not check the gas connections to the burners before leaving. Gas was leaking into our home from the burner, and it was only by sheer luck that my husband came home in time to air out the house and turn off the gas valve to the cooktop.

We called Sears back immediately to request that the repairman get back and finish his job, and were informed by their "customer service" agent that the earliest appointment to come out in determine what had gone wrong with their repair would be five days away. We pointed out that gas leaking into a house should be considered an emergency, and that if our home was to catch fire due to their repairman's incompetence, Sears would be liable. The agent stated that she understood we were a little upset, but could only offer to set an appointment five days away. No offer was made by Sears to try and get a repairman back out as quickly as possible, despite the fact that their repairman has left us with an unusable cooktop and a very dangerous situation. We are still waiting for a repairman to be sent out. And I will probably resort to choosing a different company to come and complete the repair I had to pay for up front. Unbelievable!!
