It is almost good to know that I am in good company as I read the many complaints against Chuck Vaughn, "The Balloon Man." Quite some time ago I sent him $450 for a balloon ride for 2 to acknowledge a celebration of some sort. He deferred the proposed date of service several times before finally refusing to offer the services at all after I'd complained to him about his delays. He also refused a refund of my $450. I took him to Small Claims Court, and was flabbergasted to find out (the next day) that I lost the case and was unable to receive any money back at all. The case was heard by Judge Sharon H Tanner, who I believe works for Judge Moran.
There has not been a day that's gone by since then when a spark of ire has ignited in me. I was advised not to appeal, since at that time, the appeal charge would have been about $250. I have had a very difficult time "sucking it in" since then. (This was a couple of years ago; August.) The statute of limitations I'm sure is up by now, but since I'm on Social Security - and since I can't rely on the Judge Tanners of the world to rule with justice - my only recourse is to lobby against this crooked vendor. Had I looked Vaughn up in the BBB website at that time, I would have seen his "F" rating.By briefing though the other more recent reports against him, it appears that we just might collectively qualify for a class action suit, and I would be very willing to pursue that avenue if it is viable.
Besides filing in small claims, I have complained to the Attorney General, Consumer Affairs, and the Better Business Bureau, with no response from any of them. If he hasn't been so to date, this man needs to be stopped from doing business in Florida. (Heck, I don't even think he HAS a hot air balloon!)
