Our new carpet came from Home Depot. The deciding factor was the installation price of $139.00 per house, which they described as professional work with no cutting of corners. Only 3 bedrooms needed carpet, so I pulled up the old carpet and took away all the doors, the vents in the floor, and the closet doors that fold, beforehand.
Perhaps the price explains it. The first letdown came as I vacuumed up after the installers: along the walls, some portions rose right off the floor under the suction. In 2 of the 3 rooms the carpet seemingly was never stretched and anchored correctly at the edges. The installers had also gouged my newly painted baseboards in several places.
I phoned Anderson Installations, which promised a Thursday morning visit, but the person did not arrive until 2:30 to do a proper installation and fastening. Once they left, one floor vent remained in my hands and there was no opening in a room to fit it. The worst had happened. Yes, the carpet covered the opening of a floor vent. Such sloppy work was a real letdown. I called Anderson Installation again to see whether someone could come back that very day, and again got a disappointing answer. More days off work for these blunders are not something I can afford.
I have no more time to spend on service like this, so I will complete the job on my own. In my view the $139.00 fee bought nothing of value. Two days of leave were needed for the installers, and a third may be needed for cutting out the vent opening, meaning my lost work time is worth over $139.00. Please refund my installation fees in full.
