This apartment complex advertises that is affordable housing. I applied for an apartment and three weeks later I was told to sign a lease and I could move in. Since I was a section 8 voucher and coming from out of state with two children I was pressed for time. HUD passed the apartment on inspection so I assumed it was safe.
I signed the lease and we moved in a few minutes later. The manager had said the walls had to be painted and the floors cleaned so that was the three week delay but the apartment was not painted or all that clean. After battling the bugs for two months itseemed to be working out. My 9 year old son became very ill. He was at the doctor every week trying to find out was wrong with him. My daughter was having health problems. I couldn't breath well.
We were sick all summer, school started and the ceiling in the bathroom started leaking and finally fell in the bathtub. Mold was growing all over the cieling and walls it was in the air vents. The maintence personal was in the apartment two minutes total for the two months that the leak and the hole in the cieling. The manager wasn't concerned. I had contacted her several times. She would remind me that still have 6 more months on the lease.
I was advised by the doctors to move. So I did I took my children to my sisters in Austin. I had to be homeless because I wanted my family to be healthy. The symptoms have stoped and we are all slowly getting better. I lost the section 8 because Mockingbird wouldn't let me out of the lease. The entire experience with this apartment complex has been frustrating because of the lies and false promises of fixing things.
