Connection Sweepstakes Commission
A counterfeit check

On February 19, I received a letter from the company named above that included a check for $2,650. The instructions were to call Ms. Julia Freeman aat 1-450-369-2211 and ask to have the check activated so that I could deposit it. I was then to call Ms. Freeman when the check cleared so that I could "start the claim and remittance process of your prize"—supposedly $100,000. The $2,650 was to cover all expenses and taxes because, Ms. Freeman said, "we don't want you to have to pay anything out of pocket."

On February 27, my bank notified me that the check, issued by Connecticut General and drawn on Citibank, was counterfeit and charged me a $5.00 fee.

I was humiliated and outraged. And I seem to be a target!

This morning I received a call from a Robert Cooper, supposedly from Las Vegas, representing some international sweepstakes and informing me that I had won one million dollars, a Mercedes-Benz 2013 convertible, and $25,000 cash. All I had to do was use Western Union to send $500 to Enid Mckoy at 4410 NW 25th St., Lauder Hill, FL, 33313.

I didn't bite: I'd had something similar three years ago that was a scam, so I was not likely to fall again.
