A few days ago I was looking on Google for drop shipping and found an ad for doba.com. I looked at the website and it talked about how they sell items for wholesale and have them drop shipped. The offered a 7 day free trial. I looked for pricing info and it made me enter my e-mail address and phone number. I did so and was directed to the prices. They seemed too high for me, so I didn't sign up or enroll in a free trial.
On Friday August 3, at 7 pm I received a phone call from Doba. The man on the phone asked me some questions and then said he had a great business proposition for me. He said instead of the regular price, he would let me sign up for a whole year for only $200. I said I didn't want to pay anything up front because I didn't know if it would work for me or not. He went on to say that doba does all the work for me and lists products on ebay for me and never charges a fee for any drop shipping other than their membership fee. He recommended I sell TVs on eBay and said I could make a few hundred dollars a week only listing a few of them. I re-iterated that I don't want to pay anything up front unless I knew it worked. He put me on hold to check with his manager, he then came back and offered that if I pay a $50 deposit, he would let me have a free trial for a month, if I kept using it after a month, I would get billed an additional $150, if I called to cancel I would get my $50 back.
After hearing that I felt safe and gave him my credit card number and he gave me access to doba. I could not log in as I never set up the account on line, so I called back and they set up my user name and password over the phone. I tried the site out, read the tutorials, and looked at some items. I notices that there were fees for them to drop ship unlike he said. I then tried to list a few items on eBay. I noticed that people were already selling them on eBay for far less than doba's bottom lien price. Later, eBay canceled my auctions and closed my account for violating their policy and using a 3rd party to assist in my auctions.
I e-mailed doba's support and told them what happened that that I wanted to cancel. They e-mailed me back and said its up to me to follow eBays terms and conditions and that I would have to call to cancel.
I called on the morning of 8/7/07. I told them about the situation and that I wanted to cancel. I was told that I would not be billed any more. I asked about the $50 refund and they said that their terms and conditions state "no refunds" I told them I was promised a refund and they said all their sales people know the terms and conditions and would not have promised this. They said they would talk to a manager and call me back. I received a call back later that day and was told that a manger reviewed my case and that I do not get a refund. They said I agreed to the terms and conditions when I signed up. I explained that I was never told any terms and conditions when I signed up over the phone, that I was only told that I would be refunded if I didn't like the service. I asked about the 7 day free trial and she said tat the free trial is if I don't pay in advance. I asked where I would have seen the terms and conditions and she told me that its on the website, she did not know where. I said that I feel I should get a refund as I was promised one that I would go to the BBB. She said I can go to the BBB if I want because they are paying members, so it will not affect their rating, she said I also used their site, therefore I should have to pay for the service I received. I explained that the only service I received was the loss of use of my eBay accounts. She said that's between me and eBay and kept saying that their terms and conditions state no refunds. I finally told her that this is not going anywhere and that if she was not going to refund me, I would file a report. She thanked me for my business and told me to have a nice day. I filed a complaint.
