Getting the Run Around

I broke my back on January of 1987. Kelsey Seybold Doctors have put me back together and i feel they have done an excellent job. To add to the complications, I have spinal stenosis. I have been controlling my intermittent back pain with Ibuprophen. I call it my miracle drug. I take them only when needed which is about twice per month. I do live with pain on a daily basis but it is tolerable. I sometimes over exert myself or do something to irritate my back to the point where Ibuprophen alone will not help at all. When this happened in the past, Dr. Chavaria has prescribed to me a medrol dose pack. I would take 6 pills the first day, the 5 the next until all were taken. Usually my back pain was resolved by the 2nd day. I know this works for me. I have not had any prescribed to me in at least 2 years.

This morning I called the Pasadena Clinic to make an appointment with Dr. Chavaria. Dr. Chavaria is on vacation. I received a return phone call from Dr. Issacks nurse who asked me to go to the pain specialist at the Holcomb location. I did. At the Holcolmb location, i was told that there is no pain specialist on Fridays to go back to my primary care physician. I drove from Holcomb to the Pasadena clinic. No doctor there could see me because they were all full. There were 3 people in the waiting room. A Triage doctor did talk to me. She asked me about my pain level. I explained that I have had Medrol Dose packs in the past and they work wonders on my problem. She told me to go to the emergency room. I was sitting in the doctor’s office with a non-emergency situation and they told me to go to the emergency room. Can someone please tell me the logic in this situation? By the way, my back still hurts.
