I wanted to buy new carpet for our condo to sell, and I requested a few quotes, which was great at first. A lady came in and measured with a device that automatically measures the room. After giving me a nice quote for measuring our carpet in the living room, it came up to $791.10. I was shocked at first at the price, and I scheduled for the following week. They have people call you to put in the order through your credit card on the phone, and next thing I knew, the price had jumped to $1,333.11. I called them back and said, "Why is it so much more than the price you gave me at my home?" They had added:
whole house $97.00
furniture moving $50.00
remove and haul away carpet and pad $119.84
fees (hard access walk up fee for hard to maneuver, staircase and landing or elevator access) $75.00
That comes out to an extra $341.84.
So I cancelled my order and went in person to talk to a sales rep, and I got a better deal. If you try to replace carpet or hardwood floors at your home, make sure you talk to someone who knows what they are doing, ask about everything that comes with the quote, and check prices online and around the store. If you do not, you will pay a lot of money.
