I would like to thank you very much for your time.

I took up a cingular service on February 25 and cancelled it on March 8 which was within their trial period. I ported in my primary number from sprint and got an additional line for my spouse from cingular. On cancellation I ported both the numbers to verizon. My cingular account was automatically cancelled on porting.

But I was charged for early termination fee of $285 on my March bill. I spoke to the customer service and explained to them that I cancelled it within the 14 days trial period. The representative said she would take care of the issue. April I got another bill with the same amount. Again I called cingular customer service and I was promised the same.

On May I got the notice of action saying that this would be sent to a collection agency. So I paid the amount and asked the customer service for an explanation for the charges. And now after me paying them they send my query to the adjustment department for the first time in 4 months. After a week they come back with this: Since I ported the number and did not cancel the account by leaving the numbers with cingular I am liable for the early termination fee.

There are three parties involved in this case. Cingular Customer Service, The shop that sold me the equipment and me. Before canceling the service with cingular I called up the shop and the cingular customer service to make sure it's ok to cancel it now and to make sure that I am not liable for any dollar amount from some fine prints. The word from both of them was OK.

I feel that I have been mislead by both the shop and cingular customer service. Why should i pay if i port numbers. And on top of all the cingular customer service did not mention about this in my earlier calls to them where in they promissed that they will adjust the charged amount.

Is there anyways I can get any justice on this issue or is this the way the businness is done.
