DELL Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop Computer purchased in 2007 manufactured with 2004 parts

My daughter purchased a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop computer in July with her graduation money as all MSU Students must have a computer. Within the first few weeks she had to have the keyboard replaced, luckily under warranty. Then her battery died, which again was under warranty and was replaced after many, many frustrating calls with Dell. Now the mother board died. She is a student at MSU and her final exam is on the computer. I have placed at least four calls to Dell. At first we thought it was the battery. They would not replace it as the computer is out of warranty, July even though the battery was replaced by them in March. Anyways, since the warranty was out, I had a computer repair shop look at it. It is the mother board. When he did an investigation to determine what motherboard we needed to order, he found that the component parts for the computer were manufactured in 2004! The computer was old when we purchased it! They will not replace it, I have been on hold for at least an hour with them and have been cut off twice when I asked to speak to a supervisor. I cannot even replace the mother board with a newer model because it is so old. I have to buy a refurbished motherboard since it is a 2004 model. Explain how they can sell a computer in 2007 with 2004 components? It is not one off the shelf, we ordered it on line with the bells and whistles that we wanted on it and that were required by MSU. Do we have any recourse?
