In August I bought a radial arm saw from Sears. I also purchased a 2 year Master Protection Agreement (MPA) that stated that I could schedule preventive maintence check-ups "... in each year of continuous coverage on any covered product." In Nov '03, I had my first check-up. I just called to schedule a check-up for '04 before my Protection Agreement expires in August. Sears won't do one because 12 months have not gone by since my last check-up in Nov '03. Nowhere in the MPA does it state that you have to wait 12 months between check-ups. Sears is interpreting the MPA this way so that they will only have to perform one check-up on a 24 month contract if the first one is not performed within 12 months from the date of purchase. Sears gets windfall revenue on MPA's and the consumer gets ripped off.
