Three years ago we purchased a Carrier Furnace and Central Air from Sears for $8215. The contract lists all equipment serial numbers, and they include the AC parts of the system. At the bottom the contract says: "The Contract price includes 5-year Master Protection Agreement" and shows a charge of $315 for that protection. Today I called them because the AC doesn't work, expecting it to be covered under the "Master Protection Agreement" we paid for. I was told that the "protection" only applies to the furnace, not the AC. Nowhere in all the documentation we received upon installation does it say that the AC isn't covered. To me this experience certainly besmirches the name "Sears, " and will influence any future transactions with any entity bearing that name.
