Unauthorized work cost me $1,500

A couple years ago the wiring to my engine cooling fan began to burn. Because of all my bad experiences at Winner Ford I decided I will take it to Pep Boys, where the cooling fan was replaced and ran fine after that. I received a recall notice in the mail a few months later for the cooling fan breaker assembly. I took the paperwork from Pep Boys to Winner Ford and a refund was issued to me by Ford Motor Company for the work Pep Boys completed.

I decided to give Winner Ford another try mainly because I live in Philadelphia and I can take the train directly there.in December, I took my car to Winner Ford for new tie rods ends and an oil change. The work was completed. A couple days later my car overheated so badly that all the antifreeze shot out form the engine compartment. I take it back to Winner Ford and they told me I need a new radiator and hoses, water pump and thermostat. The work is completed for over $1,200, which I paid with no complaints. But the car continued to overheat. I took it back several times. They insisted it was fine.

Around this same time I received a receipt in the mail from Winner Ford stating they did a recall on the circuit breaker assembly to the cooling fan at the same date they replaced the tie rod ends. The receipt stated "CUST STATES DO RECALL WORK". I didn't even know they did that work until I received the receipt in the mail. I drove the car around and stopped to find that the cooling fan was in fact not working properly, as it would stop coming on all together after a couple times.

I pleaded with Winner Ford to check the recall work they did on my calling fan wiring. The insisted nothing was wrong with my car. It sat there until I was able to go there myself six days later and show them it was overheating. I would also like to mention my car window was left partially open by them for the whole week and my car seat was soaking wet and water on the floor was frozen. I told the service manager, Larry, that they left the window open, but he just ignored me.

The mechanic was called out and unplugged the plug to the engine cooling fan and something that he identified as the circuit breaker. He said it's burning and the fan now needs to be replaced. They replaced the cooling fan and charged be another $269. I told the service manager that my money should be refunded because the unauthorized work they did on the wiring to the engine cooling fan broke my cooling fan and caused my car to overheat. They claimed they never did that work until I showed them the receipt that was sent to me in the mail. They insisted they did nothing wrong and said they even gave me a discount on parts and labor for the new engine cooling fan.

I contacted the Vice President of Winner Ford and Ford Motor Company, but they sided with the service department and indicated the problem is my car because it has over 100,000 miles. Neither mentioned how wrong it was to lie on the receipt and said I authorized that work. They also failed to address at all the issue of leaving my window open. The failed to address the issue of them misdiagnosing the problem and failing to find the problem despite my begging for them to check the unauthorized recall work. They just insisted that they are allowed to do recall work without my permission. The recall was for the original stock fan. Not the fan replaced my Pep Boys.

In conclusion, Winner Ford of Cherry Hill messed with the wiring to my engine cooling fan without consulting with me first. The fan in fact stopped working properly. The car overheated. The radiator exploded. They tell me I need a new radiator and hoses, water pump and thermostat. The car continued to overheat. I told them the fan isn't working properly and please check the work they did without my authorization on the engine cooling fan. They failed to do that until I had to show them personally. They finally had to replace the fan and charged me additional money, but gave me a small discount to try to appease me. All I wanted was tie rod ends and an oil change. Not to get ripped off like this and to add insult to injury have my upholstery damaged. And to make things worse, my water pump is currently leaking. But I will never step foot in Winner Ford again.

I noticed they do a lot of business with government agencies. Perhaps they care more about getting the big contracts, than doing a good job for the individual customer. My credit card company is looking into this. Next, I plan to take them to court. At which time I will be asking for more than the $1,508.14 they charged me to fix their mistakes. Everyone I speak to about this, including auto technicians, can't believe they put me through this. They haven't heard the end of me. I am telling anyone who will listen about what they did to me.
