When picking up a car from Professional Towing, we found out what kind of people they have working for them. We were quoted $150 on December 15th and $170 on December 16th. The increase is understandable due to storage fees. We counted out the $170 in cash (8 $20 bills and 1 $10 bill) on the desk. The clerk "Ted" picked up the money, placed it back in the envelope and went into another room, came back and took it out and began counting it and only counted out $150.
Ted went into the other room so he could skim $20 for his pocket. He said the bill came to $165 (not the $170 quoted over the phone) and that he needed the additional $15. I told him he had forgotten to count the $20 he put in his pocket and he said that he was insulted that I would even suggest that and that I had two options - leave the $150 and leave without the car and he keeps the $150 or give him another $15.
Of course we had to get the car so we gave him the additional $15 in order to get the car. Before ripping us off, he was very talkative "about the weather" after the rip off occurred, he couldn't even look me in the eye. I think he took advantage of two women. It's not so much the $20 but the principle involved here.
