Red Lobster Store #6212
Uses authority to bully and be cruel to staff

My name is Brandi and i have been a loyal, hardworking, employee at Red Lobster, store number 6212, in Gurnee, IL for over 3 1/2 yrs. I was considered a favored server amongst the staff and i was always prompt, obedient, and successfully gave continous over the top service during the time i worked there. I would appreciate it you took my concerns seriously for i am emailing you in the attempt to remedy problems which might be having a crucial affect on Guest Satisfaction Surveys, Staff, and overall working environment. Over the time i worked at this location, i have encountered frequent problems with one manager in particular. Upon my leave in the last week, i brought the problem to the attention to my General Manager, Sandy Rombalski, but still feel as if proper justice is yet to be served.

When i began working there, i was inspired to work hard for the company. Over that time not only have they lost my trust as an employee, but also, they let me down as a person. When intimidation and disregaurd are used to address staff, someone needs to stand up for those who can't because of fear of losing their jobs. I felt i couldn't come to my general manager when Kim S. Mankunas would repeatedly use her authority to bully without fear of reprocussions. This has been an ongoing problem with many of the staff for many years and nothing has been done about it. Sooner or later, the blame of poor customer service has to be laid on the constance. There's a reason why our GSS is as inconsistant as it is. Different hosts, different wait staff, same kim. I didn't leave because of spite, I needed to better myself and this job was holding me back. I felt like less of a person every time i left. It says a lot when the emotional costs of a work environment outweighs its pay even in an economy as uncertain as ours. We are more than waiters and waitresses, more than hosts and cooks, we are people and should be respected as so. Being employed should never come at the cost of ones integrity and that's why i left. I'm sure they'll have my replacement and I'll be forgotten like those who left before me, but know that I will not forget. I won't turn a blind eye and flash a fake smile, intimidated or bullied, I will stand up and be a better person for it. I am sending this letter to corporate because i feel that Kim Mankunas will continue to treat staff like her personal stress relief balls.By that i mean, when she has a bad day, she takes it out on staff by going out of her way to be sarcastic, unkind, and even pulling the strings to keep certain servers on the clock long after they should have been able to leave. Sometimes, when servers make helpful suggestions, she feels it a threat to her authority and goes out of her way to rub the fact that she is the boss in the staffs faces. I have also witnessed a clique-yness about management as a whole in that establishment. If you don't have a contagious, ougoing, and charming personality, chances are they won't get along with you and nor will they try to accomodate your wishes or concerns. They gossip like kids on the playground and if they don't care for your personality, even if you do a good job, they find means to get you fired or make you so miserable that you end up quitting, like i did. They value favoritism when it comes to schedules, who gets off on holidays, and everyday treatment of servers/staff in general. I've noticed them applauding when certain servers are absent and complaining when certain servers are present. Not everyone gets along... But we musn't mistreat those workers who may have personality quirks, but still work very hard and give the best service of their abilities. I know nobody is perfect, but managers should at least set an example. I find that managers blame the servers for bad customer service, when the blame should really be on them for running a place with such inconsistancies and disrespect like some of the examples i've listed above. Lastly, they don't value staff as people but treat and view them as easily disposable, easily replaceable. I feel that this perspective that most of the staff seems to carry, hinders their want to bring such issues into the light to fix them. I have spoken to many of the staff who feel as i do and they agree, they feel there is nothing they can do and choose to accept the way things are. I decided not to. I did send a letter to my general manager telling her that i was satisfied with how she handled the situation, but i later decided that i wasn't. I didn't show up for my shift and i sent her a letter to the affect of why. She spoke to Kim Mankunas about the problems i was having, but i do not believe she handled or fixed the problem. I still believe she will continue to be unkind to servers at her convenience.

I appreciate your taking the time to consider my concerns. I'm only hoping somehow this letter helps the situation for those who still have to work there. I however, have moved on to bigger and better things. Thank you for your time.
