My husband has a savings and a checking acct with this bank. Both of the accounts are to be strictly accessed on-line only that way we do not have to pay a monthly fee.
He had his paycheck directly deposited into the checking acct on a weekly basis. He then instructed the bank to take 10.00 of that deposit and put it into the savings acct.
All was well until he was laid off from the job and there was no more money going into the acct. We contacted the bank by regular mail and by phone and by e-mail to let them know. We did not receive any further instructions from them so we figured there was nothing more we had to do. Two weeks after the direct deposit stopped we received a letter in the mail stating that we had an insufficient funds charge and would be charged 30.00.
We could not figure it out because we had not written any checks for quite some time. A week later we received another letter stating the same thing. Needless to say they were charging us the insufficient funds fee because there was no money in our checking acct to transfer to our savings acct. So we were being charged 30.00 of our money because 10.00 of our own money was not available to transfer from OUR CHECKING To OUR SAVINGS.
This is the most ludicrous thing I have ever heard. We did not bounce a check or anything remotely connected. We then requested a refund of the charges and were told too bad.in the end we were out just under 200.00. They did this for two months every week. Now we have cancelled the savings and the checking we went to open another acct at another bank and were declined because of two many recent overcharges on our checking acct.
Bank of ameria sucks and they stole 200.00 dollars out from under our nose and could give a s_t about it.
I will never do business with them again and have told my friends and family the same.
