I had a checking and savings account with Bank of America and moved. I drove 30mins to the closest Bank of America to close out my account. Well needless to say the lady didn't do it right and it started getting charged the $5.95 fee thus overdraft fees went on the acct. Etc. Well it took 3 drives to the bank to finally get it cleared up. Or I thought it was cleared up. NOT! I checked my account, still negative when it was closed! 2 calls and it was cleared up. Well, 5mths later I got a statement on the closed checking.
Overdraft fee's, monthly fee's, plus money had gone out to bills... Well, I closed the acct. So why was this going on. I called they said if you don't go online and cancel all your online banking it automatically pays even if you closed the acct. Well these were automatically set up for 1yr, so why didn't it happen the other 5mths???!!! Plus they should tell you to cancel all auto pays and that those don't get automatically cancelled when u close an acct. U would think when u close an acct. It would CLOSE! Well, I called the bank and they credited back the montly fees and the overdraft, but not the money they paid the bill payee. Well, now that's a double pay since I had written them a check out of my new account... I should not owe them for all the time I've wasted trying to cancel this frigin account...
I didn't think it would be so hard to close a checking acct. Mind you I just got a statement for the 5mth closed savings acct. Today. Something is screwy for accts. To open and them to charge fees... UGH! They have not resolved this problem and I'm hesistant that it will be anytime soon. Not to mention I've had problems with the high NSF charges as others have on this site as well... Do not bank with Bank of America. They take you for any extra money they can get...
